Chapter 2

1233 Words
Late into the night, Lisa finally ended her shift, eager to return home to the only person who could brighten her exhaustion, her brother, Carlton. Yet, before leaving the premises, a stray thought crossed her mind, "What if he was still there?" She shook her head quickly. There was no way the Damson Montclair would fall for someone like her so easily. No, she knew it would take countless steps, countless trials, to earn his attention. And she had a plan for that and that gave her pure joy. Compared to her, her life and house don't speak that much volume, but she would prefer it ten times more than leaving the way rich people do. In front of her apartment door before she rang the bell she took a big sigh and forced a smile because she knew somehow God blessed her with a brother who takes good care of her and treats her own exhaustion as his own and she repays him by smiling. He's so hopeful and cheerful about everything she got scared and followed him to school one day just to confirm if he was putting up a front in front of her so she wouldn't feel bad but he was just a genuinely sweet boy she found it hard to believe she raised him even with all the hate and anger that's boiling in her blood and he gives her peace of mind and as she was about to press the door bell the door opened she saw his bright smile she couldn’t help but smile back "What's up, you came back late today, extra customers today?" He asked as he moved for her to enter "I thought the rich don't get hungry" he laughed and she smiled at his lame jokes "Yeah, extra customers. How good would it be if they actually didn't eat eeh?" She replied removing her shoes and hanging her bag and coat "Anyways I made dinner might have been cold because you took soooo long I will heat it for you, you should go shower I didn’t use the hot water so that you could" Carlton said as he headed to the kitchen to warm up her dinner "When did you get so grown up Carl? And you are crazy tall too" "Hehehe I'm seventeen you know, not really a baby I will be legal in 2 months and for the tall part, that's why you are cute sissy, I literally see you down there," he said making fun of her "You said what?" She asked to go closer to him and he moved away from her "You better bring your tall ass over here let me smack you" he made funny faces and they laughed as they ran around the apartment till they got tired and she had to freshen up She knows she would never trade this for a billion dollars. She sat in the tub, soaking her worn-out body. She started to think about her and Damson's encounter, and it wasn’t how she planned it. She said to herself ‘Lalisa, you'd better get your act straight! Your first day was poor make the next better" then she sank herself into the water ************* Clocking out was Damson's least favourite part of his day; he didn't enjoy anything apart from jumping from meeting to video call meetings and being buried in deep paperwork, and that gave him solace, from what? He knew but he couldn’t dare speak it out but today he seemed exhausted even though he decided to drive himself home which was a terrible idea but he does whatever he wants whenever he pleases it was like an unwritten rule but her...everything about her made the hair on his body stand, she smelled too good for someone working that type of job, she was ordinary from the other girls he's been with but at the same time he knew it in him none would match her, her plump lips that continued to move while she was talking he wondered how it would feel on his lips that thought alone made him grip the steering harder, the way her cheek slightly turned pink when he let her hair down it made him want to do more and figure how much color her face could take and the way her waist moved in that tight skirt... "I will be needing to see her or a brain doctor," he said as he pressed the brake unexpectedly without knowing he was running miles, and he got home faster than he planned to. He got down, his driver, of course, was already waiting for him at home, opened the door for him, and as he got down from the car, he reminded his driver, "Don't let my mother get a whiff of what I asked for, do you understand me?" "Yes, young master. I am already on it" He nodded and tapped him on the shoulder as if telling him well done but he was hard and that was uncomfortable to walk in so he paused "Any other thing you'd like me to look at for you young master?" With shame and distress, he shook his head and waved his hands at the same time. "Just find her for me," he said to him as he entered the house. "Before I lose my damn mind," he said to himself. ************** "Anything new about school, maybe a new girlfriend? Hmm?" Lisa asked as she was munching on her dinner "New? Was there an old one? Sissy, you need to actually give up on these dreams of yours. It's getting old," he laughed at her facial expression. "What?" He asked "I know for sure there's something between you and Audrey I just can't prove it yet, I see the way you act all cute and shy with her and making your voice deeper too? Yeah I caught that" She smiled as he got up with his iPad in his left hand and his soda in his right hand he got closer to her and kissed her forehead "You mean like this?" He asked making his voice deeper and she laughed "I knew it! Have you asked her out yet? What did she say?" She turned as she watched him head for his room hoping he would give her an answer "Carlton!" "See you tomorrow Sissy sleep well," he said as he closed the door behind him softly "I know they are dating," she said to herself smiling. The smile slipped from her face when her eyes fell on the framed photo of her mother. She could still see that last smile, still hear the echo of the gunshots, and her mother’s dying words: It wasn’t your fault. Take your brother and run. Her grip tightened on the fork until it snapped. A shard nicked her finger, but she didn’t flinch. Pain was nothing compared to this. Quietly, she rinsed her plate, then retreated to her room. She locked the door, crossed to the wardrobe, and peeled back the false covering she had hidden for years. The wall came alive before her: photos, scribbled notes, and red lines, all converging on a single name, Damson Montclair. Her chest heaved, but her smile was cold. She would use every ounce of charm, every calculated glance, every spark of seduction until he fell just as her mother had.
