Aria winced as Kade helped her through the door of her home. Three days had passed since the combat trial, but her ribs still ached with each breath.
"Easy now," Kade said, supporting her weight, “the doctor said those ribs need at least a week."
"I don't have a week," Aria replied, sinking carefully onto the couch, “the Nova Empire won't run itself."
Betty bounced into the room, her face brightening at the sight of her mother. "Mom! Are you feeling better?"
"Much better now that you're here," Aria said, opening her arms for a gentle hug. "Careful with the ribs, though."
