Wren Milford’s POV
I arrived at my home. I’ve witnessed terror within the Fay community. I don’t know where the Marauder Faeries are. I’m had already quit after I left them in the Vampire Territory. My eyes were tired and I found out the shadow horses already disappeared from the stables. The vampires let me go as if nothing happened.
My feet are so sore and I ache every step I take. Maybe it really sucks to walk on two legs under the blazing hot sun. I can’t fly anymore since the vampires ruined my wings. I only quit because Melody failed me. I missed my little sister, and it took me 30 minutes to arrive here safely.
“Where is she?” I asked the babysitter.
“She kept on crying while you are away.” I sighed… I felt regret for joining Melody on the mission the witch and warlock gave. It was too risky to leave his sister behind.
I knocked on the door hoping for an answer.
“Don’t come in yet, Ms. Mayla.” My sister heard me knock again. “Alright what is it now? Is Wren home?”
Ms. Mayla was about their mother’s age. She was one of the closest friends our family had.
“He’s here already.” I heard my sister unlock the door. She had her arms wide open as she ran towards me. She embraced my legs, her tears flowed down as she greeted me.
“You scared me, big bro!” I stayed quiet…I instantly regret that I left her for almost a week. My sister was more important than Melody. Family meant the world to me. Sally Milford…My only family left after my parents disappeared.
“Sally, don’t worry anymore. I’m here for you.” She began to tug my shirt. Asking me to carry her. I wrapped my arm around her small body and carried her. I swung her around to make her laugh. My sister’s laugh was so cute, I tickled her with my right arm as the other held her near my body.
“When will mom and dad come home?” She asks me after I stopped playing with her. She sat on her mint green bed sheets. Her bright orange eyes were like my mother’s. Whenever I hear this question, I can’t handle the fact my parents aren’t home. That I might never get to see them again. All my hope I had for them was disappearing from my belief systems.
“I don’t know when, but I know they will. But I pray Maziara would take us to them.” Which, I always answered her when she asks the same question all over again. My little sister Sally is growing, day by day, until weeks, months, years had passed by. I would remember how my mom would tell us stories. Folklore and legends of how the Fay world and the human world were created separated by a boy and a girl who symbolizes life and death.
Evil always had a role in each story she had told. And believe me, I’ve seen evil in this life… Evil in those vampires who destroyed our Fay University yesterday. All the Fay being captured or burned at the stake. I would have regretted leaving Melody, but my sister needs me more than her.
Anger never blinded me when I left. I made an excuse to leave her since I want my little sister to be safe. My sister then cuddled me from the back as I sat down on the edge of her bed. “Sally?” I asked. “Is it okay that we will travel away from here… Somewhere safe?” Sally pulled herself away from me.
“Brother, I have a plan… We could leave tomorrow morning where the vampires won’t find us in broad daylight. We may sleep tonight before they come to our house again.” Sally never fails to amaze me with her brilliance. Perhaps I could relax for now with the small relief of having at least one plan.
“I need to show you something. Someone called Mister Sham arrived before you left.” My sister jumped out of bed and open her cabinet nearby, opening it from its own case and showing me an instrument made of pure glass.
“This is the violin of hope. It can protect us when we get late on finding Melody.” Hearing Melody’s name wasn’t pleasant anymore. I could remember her violet glowing eyes when she turned mad.
“We shouldn’t go near her anymore. Look I’ve quit from her group already!” Sally then frowned at me; her eyes look tired of hearing my story about what happened while I was away.
“You see… This is what Melody needs to defeat the vampires. Mr. Sham heard a rumor from the witches of a rebellion. He entrusted me with this artifact. Now if we don’t go to her… The Vampire’s plan of ruling our world will come true.” Sally then throws a tantrum for not listening to her. She went into my room and broke most of my stuff. She almost throws the last framed photograph of our parents. I stopped her and knelt down.
“Hurt me instead. But I won’t take you to her little sis.”
All I could do was let her hit me, I don’t care if this could save us Faeries. I just don’t want her to be in danger because of me bringing her to Melody.
An endless thought of possibilities made me discomforted at night. The vampires were busy draining blood from a long line of Fay. We never went out the whole night. They never ask us to get out of our house. They didn’t care if we don’t line up outside. Only volunteers agreed to give them blood. And Fay's blood was all they need for now. I watched them from the window near the door. I turn myself around to see my sister holding the violin. She called it hope. She hoped this world would be at peace again. Finally, I agreed to let her go with me.
In the morning we packed our stuff light. We only brought the violin and a supply of food to go to the famous Witch and Warlock territory. Under the Willow tree of the south border of the Vampire Kingdom. Sally happily walked with me. If they dare harm my sister… I would avenge her no matter what it cost me.
