Chapter 7- The Vampires

1724 Words
Wren Milford   I woke up and saw Melody sleeping beside me and Benji in a king-sized bed which was quite spacious for ourselves. I stood up and walked away from bed. I went downstairs to see what kind of inn the vampires have. I constantly was reminded on how brutal they were, the blood they use are from some pixies, fairies and witches. The reason why they did bother on taking my team’s blood was that we are protected by the law. We paid them so we can enter, not to be harmed by them. The Inn look so gothic that you might mistake it for a horror house. Coffins where placed in some parts of the inn. Few spider webs are on the corners of the ceilings. In each room’s entrance there was a label on where they are. Some vampires are eating raw meat in the dining hall. I was squeamish about it and looked the other way as they ate a heart of some animal. The windows have been protected from the sunlight. Only a few vampires are awake. They move quietly like a feather landing on the floor.   It wasn’t like last night where the noises where loud and cheerful. The whole territory was awake at night and asleep in morning. The vampire’s faces where like the witches’ but paler. They had fangs that come out of their mouth when they drink a dead animal’s blood. All of their eyes had unique colors like the other faeries. I approached the inn-keeper, she was a woman who wore white and red clothing. Her name was on her labeled ID. “Hello I’m Leonora.” I then greeted her. “Yes, little fay boy, how can I help thee?” She took a glass and pored water gracefully. I only needed something to eat, though I don’t know if they’ll serve me what we don’t eat. My stomach growled it gave her the signal that I was hungry. “Care for some tea and biscuit before I’ll ask the cook to make your meal little one?” She asked kindly, not merely fake or unwelcoming. “That would be good thank you.” I told her. She then let me sit down at the dining hall. “Since you are a guest here in this Bloody hell inn, I give you and your friends free meals. The Queen want you to be welcomed before applying her decree that is, I’ll be back in 20 minutes.” She told me, walking away from my seat and into the kitchen. I looked at the windows, I saw a few vampires wearing black suits when going out, it covered their whole bodies. So that is how they go out in the sun? They look weird in my opinion. Some f the vampires drink two small bottles of a potion I don’t know of. They didn’t burn into flames because of the sun. Moments later, Leonora arrived with some tea and biscuits. “Need some Caline Milk for that?” She asked me, her eyes were not blinking. “What is Caline Milk? From what animal is that?” I asked her she then smiled and told me it was Milk from Butterfly’s nectar. It sounded good so I told her I wanted some. She left to get it, I ate my biscuits, it tasted like leaves, grass along with some unknown source of sweetness and bitterness. I admit it was a terrible biscuit. She then brought the milk and poured a few drops. “It might be too sweet for you so I put a little.” Leonora then left me, I waited for 15 minutes for my food to arrive. I noticed only one minute had passed by according to the clock. I was getting a bit impatient since I was hungry. Melody and Benji entered the dinning hall. “Oh, hello Mel and Ben.” They sat on the seats in front of me. Melody sat on the left seat while Benji sat on the right seat beside her. “We got 2 days left.” Melody told me, her violet eyes where anxious.  “Wren and Melody.” Benji then took out something, a map of the castle. “I bought this in the bookstore near the stables. It looks so vivid and detailed.” Leonora came with a big platter enough for the three of us. “How can we afford this amount of food?” Melody was stunned, her eyes where annoyed that she was the only one who has enough reckles to pay for it.  I drank my tea quickly, it was like drinking honey flavored bagels, it was good and the opposite of the biscuits. When I was done, both Mel and Benji where watching me, with a questioning look. “She said it was free of charge.” I pointed at the innkeeper. Leonora nodded and took some glasses of Caline milk. “Yes, he is telling the truth.” She placed the milk on the upper right corner of our plates. Her delicate long fingers had a certain strength to carry all of it. “I’ll leave you little three for now, you can order anything you want. Nothing will be charged; you already paid the right amount last night.” She then grinned and left us dumbfounded. Why are the vampires so welcoming to the fay? Is it because we are going to be their newly found slaves? I didn’t bother to ask Mel or Benji the question. Benji was disappointed that his map was under the platter. “Before eating, let me get this first.” He then levitated the platter slowly and took out the thin piece of paper swiftly. “Okay good thing this is still in one piece.” We all said our prayer to our goddess, Maziara the feast and fasting goddess. We thanked her for the meal and began devouring the food in front of us. The food was good even though some of it made us have a bitter aftertaste. The food was weird and had different flavors depending on its color. It wasn’t like the food served in our homeland. “This is good enough for free food.” Benji then grabbed a flower folded napkin and wipe it on his face. “Mel did you enjoy it?” I asked her, she then began to smile. “Yeah, the bitter aftertaste was making us have funny faces.” She giggled which made me happy, it sounded like a young child’s giggle. “We need to leave soon; we need to have a private meeting.” Melody’s face was clean as it was earlier, she didn’t eat to quick like Benji. “Will you wait for me? I need to go to the bathroom.” Benji then left us in a hurry. Me and Mel where left alone. “So, Wren. I think you must also go to the comfort room; we won’t have any time for breaks later.” I nodded; I then went to the bathroom. We came back to the dining hall, me and Benji noticed that Melody was nowhere to be seen. “Where did she go?” I asked Benji, “I don’t know you are with her earlier.” I noticed a not on the table. It was written in her handwriting. It said she was going to get what we needed and she will be back soon. “Let’s wait for her in the room.” I told Benji, we both went upstairs to the room. It was locked. “Do you have the key?” Benji didn’t respond. “Perhaps the innkeeper did some cleaning.” He told me and took out the key and twisted it in the brass doorknob. The door creaked open, we saw the room was cleaned and noticed a note on the window. ‘Thanks for staying here at Bloody hell manor. Please donate some blood. If not, you cannot stay here any longer after 3 hours. A nurse will approach you soon.’ The note was kind of creepy, some needle and a blood bag were placed on our bed. “I think we are required to do this.” I told Benji, I am afraid of blood. I’m such a fearful and squeamish person.   The nurse arrived, I closed my eyes as I sat on the bed and she took some of my blood. Benji was fine with blood which was expected. “Thanks, I’m sorry if we needed your blood. We are low on supply for now.” The nurse told us that her name was Coraline. She had a soft and high squeaky voice. It sounded like a teacher scratching on the blackboard slowly. “I must go, if you are found alone, some vampire might drink all of your blood. Those vampires don’t care about any law. Beware of that.” Coraline left us. This sounded disturbing, Benji then lay down on the bed and felt tired. I gave him something to eat so that he would feel better. I drank some water and later on we begin on chatting.             “Melody looks like she likes you more than me.” Benji told me, he was kind of calm when he spoke. “I thought she liked you.” I told him, both of us are confused whether she like one of us. “She seems to be troubled about something, right Wren?” I agreed with him. He continued on eating the custard I gave him. “I think she sometimes hides her own feelings herself.”             “Yeah, she is a secretive person. I find her attractive.” I then looked at Benji, his red eyes were focused on me. “We would never know what she’ll do next. Whether she would choose one of us or none.” Melody arrived; she brought some materials we needed. Some weaponry, stakes from fresh wooden sticks she took from a chair and some masks to wear. There are also some suits and a ball gown that was tucked in a large bag.               “Get ready, there will be a Sunlit Midnight Masquerade ball in the castle.” She told us and we quickly get dressed. She undressed herself, she wore some undergarments. She then instructed us to not look. She was done a few moments later and asked Benji to zip the back of her dress. He did as he was told. I got finished in dressing myself properly. We left the inn, wearing mask and formal attire. Now the first Mission of us Marauder Faeries are about to start.
