The next day was long, and considering Amelia hadn't slept well while thinking about rescuing the soldier and Daniel's proposal, the hours seemed to pass even slower, in a mix of exhaustion, anxiety, and obsessive thoughts that seemed capable of driving her mad. Most of the time she was thinking about how she wanted to rescue Troy's father once and for all, and how she feared failing and ruining everything for both herself and the soldier. And when she wasn't thinking about that, she was thinking about how much she wanted Daniel, and how she shouldn't want Daniel, or how she was afraid of giving herself to him and triggering some memory of what the human did to her in the woods, while her rationality pointed out that she shouldn't even consider any kind of involvement with him.
