Chapter 5: Rejection for Mr. Ken

“B-but... you have the wrong person,” Anna interrupted quickly, her voice trembling with panic. She wanted to explain that she was Daniel Moren’s wife, a woman legally bound by marriage in this house. However, the middle-aged man in front of her immediately cut her off with a deeper bow. “There is no way we have the wrong person, Miss Annabelle Queen. We have your data with absolute accuracy,” Ben replied firmly yet politely. “Please, Young Madam. Do not make this difficult for us. Mr. Wright does not like being kept waiting.” “I can’t! I don’t even know Mr. Wright either!” Anna exclaimed, trying to close the door. However, two tall bodyguards swiftly held the large wooden door without hurting Anna in the slightest. Ben looked at her again with an undeniable pleading gaze. “Please, Young Madam. Your presence is an absolute order.” Anna gripped the edge of her clothes tightly. Her mind raced rapidly. If she continued resisting and caused a commotion here, the servants or even Daniel might find out. Besides, curiosity had begun to stir inside her mind. Who exactly was the owner of the Wright name searching for her? Was it the man from last night? It’s better if I go with them, Anna finally decided inwardly. I’ll meet that man, explain my real status, and settle this misunderstanding once and for all. “Fine. I’ll come. But I need to explain something to your boss,” Anna said firmly. The ride in the Rolls-Royce ended on an exclusive hill on the outskirts of New York. The car slowed down, entering a gigantic iron gate that opened automatically, passing through a vast lawn toward a magnificent European-style mansion. That luxurious palace was the main residence of the Wright family. The moment the car door was opened for her, Anna stepped out. Her presence instantly became the center of attention. Dozens of servants and guards lined up along the corridor leading to the main lobby looked stunned. Silent whispers seemed to spread as they stared at Anna’s extremely curvy and voluptuous figure, far from the type of women who usually approached their young master. “Why are you all silent?!” Ben barked while walking beside Anna, his voice echoing through the spacious lobby. “Welcome her! Starting today, she is the Young Madam of this mansion!” The servants flinched and hurriedly lowered their heads as deeply as possible. “Welcome, Young Madam,” they greeted in unison, although disbelief still flickered in their eyes. Anna felt uncomfortable under those gazes, but she had no time to feel insecure. Her steps were guided into an incredibly luxurious main living room. There, standing with his back facing the massive window, was a man dressed in a black shirt with the sleeves rolled up to his elbows. The moment the man turned around, Anna’s breath caught in her throat. She had not recognized his face clearly last night because of the darkness and alcohol, but that overwhelming aura of dominance, the sharp jawline, and the pair of hawk-like eyes staring intensely at her... there was no mistake. The man standing before her was Ken Alexander Wright. The sole heir of the Wright Dynasty, a business ruler whose name was feared even by the Moren family. Ken stepped forward, shortening the distance between them. The corner of his lips lifted into a cold smile that seemed dangerously seductive. “You’ve got some nerve... sleeping with me and then running away before sunrise, hmm?” Thump. Anna’s face instantly flushed red. Her heart pounded violently. So the stranger she had crashed into at the bar, the man who spent that heated night with her... was this business monster? “Huh?” Anna stared at him in shock, stepping back to find room to breathe. “So... the man from last night... was you?” “Yes, me. Why? Disappointed?” Ken stared at her directly, crossing his arms over his broad chest. Anna took a deep breath, trying to gather the last fragments of her courage. She had to end this madness. “I’m sorry, Mr. Ken. About what your assistant said earlier... bringing me here to become the queen of this place? I’m truly sorry, Sir... but I can’t. I’m not supposed to be here.” Hearing such a direct rejection, a flash of anger instantly appeared in Ken’s hawk-like eyes. He moved forward twice as fast. Before Anna could avoid him, Ken’s strong fingers had already reached out and firmly gripped her chin, forcing her to look directly into his darkened eyes. “Why?” Ken whispered, his voice low yet trembling with refusal to accept her answer. “Out there, thousands of women beg for the chance to chase after me, willing to sacrifice anything just to become the mistress of this mansion. You should feel lucky, Annabelle!” Ken’s breathing grew heavier. His skin touching Anna’s chin showed no allergic reaction at all. That fact only made him even more possessive. He would not let his cure walk away so easily. Anna winced softly. The grip on her chin did not hurt, but it completely restrained her movements. “Let go of me, Mr. Ken! I said I can’t!” “Give me one reasonable explanation why you’re rejecting me!” Ken demanded sharply. “Because I’m already married!” Anna shouted bluntly, her voice echoing throughout the vast room. Instantly, a suffocating silence enveloped them. Ken’s grip on Anna’s chin suddenly loosened. His hawk-like eyes narrowed as he stared at Anna as though she had just told the most absurd joke he had ever heard. “What? You’re married?” Ken repeated skeptically. “Yes! I’ve been married for five years!” Anna answered firmly again, her chest rising and falling from overflowing emotions. She wanted this man to know that she belonged to someone else, even if Daniel kept their marriage hidden from the world. Ken fell silent for a moment before a low laugh escaped his thin lips, sounding cynical and mocking. He stepped closer again, lowering his head until his warm breath brushed against Anna’s ear, making the hairs on her neck stand up. “Haha... don’t be ridiculous, Baby,” Ken whispered, his tone suddenly turning dangerously seductive. “You said you’ve been married for five years? Then explain something to me... why were you still a virgin last night?” Thump. That blunt question struck Anna hard. The defenses she had built instantly crumbled. Anna suddenly fell speechless, her lips parted but not a single word could come out. The fact that Daniel had never touched her for five years, the fact that she had been completely ignored and rejected so cruelly.
