21 Dan stumbled, tripping over his own feet, and lurched forward. He managed to stop himself from falling by grabbing hold of the handrail that ran the length of the patio and down the few steps which led to the car park. In his effort to stay upright, he let the door swing back. Karen, realising what was about to happen, stuck her hand out and just managed to stop the door before it crashed into Charlotte’s cot. This was why she had insisted on carrying her daughter home, instead of allowing Dan to undertake the task, even though he insisted on doing it, and even became quite vocal inside the restaurant.
