Chapter 1-3

Dennis might be a complete scumbag, but at least he would act as a deterrent if some maniac drove by and saw her standing there alone. Even in her heels she guessed she could run back to Dennis before a weirdo could jump out of his car and grab her. From out of the darkness, Sharon could hear a noise. She strained to listen, then her heart leapt. It was the sound of a car engine approaching. Sharon stood in the middle of the road. The thought of stepping into a warm car and being ferried home seemed too good to be true. She turned back in the direction Dennis had gone to call to him, but then she changed her mind and decided to let him stew. As the car engine grew louder, she could just make out the headlights cutting through the trees which criss-crossed the winding road. It was definitely heading her way. She felt herself shivering, but she could not tell if it was due to the cold or the excitement at the approaching vehicle. Then she remembered her concerns about some lunatic driving towards her, and her without the protection of Dennis to rely on. Sharon moved from one foot to the other, she was torn between her fear of being abducted, and her hatred for Dennis and the way he had treated her tonight. Before she had a chance to decide on her best course of action, the vehicle came around the bend and into sight. It looked like an old van and, as it drew closer, Sharon recognised it as belonging to the Craven brothers. They worked in their father’s butcher’s shop in the high street and were both friends of Dennis. Just her luck. Even so, they should still be good for a lift home, if nothing else. As the van approached, Sharon ran forward and began waving her arms frantically in the air. After a couple of steps, she stopped and managed to catch the blanket before it slipped off her hips to reveal her n***d undercarriage. The van pulled over and Colin Craven leaned out of the driver’s window. “Well now, what have we here?” he sneered, l*****g his lips in an exaggerated manner. “Oh, looks like a delivery of fresh meat,” piped up his brother Don from the passenger seat. Sharon reluctantly walked over to the open driver’s window. “Hi guys, I’m in trouble. Can you help me out, please?” “Oh yeah, what kind of trouble could an old slapper like you get herself into that we could help with? We’re not fuckin’ abortion doctors, yer know?” Don roared at his older brother’s joke. Sharon managed to keep her cool. She had heard worse from some of the other blokes in town, so now it slid off like water off a duck’s back. “Come on guys, please, I’m stuck out ’ere. Give us a lift into town – it’s not like it’s out of your way.” Colin glanced over at the car, and recognised it at once. “Where’s Dennis then?” he asked, raising his eyebrows. Sharon turned back for a moment to check he was not about to re-emerge from the trees. “Oh, he lost his keys, so he went off looking for them.” “More like he had a better offer and left you ’ere by the roadside waitin’ fer ’im,” Don commented with a sneer. Sharon sighed. “Whatever, can I have a lift or not? I’m b****y freezin’.” The two brothers exchanged glances without speaking, then Colin turned back to face Sharon. “Tell yer what – you give me brother ’ere a blow job in the back of the van, then let me shove it up your arse, and we’ll take yer anywhere yer want. Deal?” Sharon did not need a second to consider their offer. “f**k off!” she yelled indignantly. Colin shrugged his shoulders. “Suit yerself, find yer own b****y way ’ome.” And, with that, he pressed down on the accelerator and sped off along the road. For a moment, Sharon was convinced that Colin would stop. Surely, he was not so hard-hearted as to leave her abandoned out here in the middle of the night. But to her dismay, the van’s lights disappeared around the next bend and, while she waited for the brothers to have a change of heart, Sharon soon realised that the noise from the engine was moving further and further away. Sharon stamped her foot down hard on the road in exasperation. With no other alternative left, she walked back over to the car, and slumped against the driver’s-side door. She did not see or hear the creatures emerging from the woods until it was too late. Not that Sharon would have been able to outrun them but, at least if she had seen them early enough, she might have had time to wave the Craven boys down and give in to their disgusting demands in return for a safe passage. As it was, by the time Sharon was aware of their presence, she was surrounded on all sides. For a moment the hulking creatures stood staring at their helpless prey, as if considering their next move very carefully. Sharon screamed for Dennis to come and help her but, unbeknown to Sharon, Dennis was already long gone. Dropping the blanket in her haste to escape, Sharon ran first one way then, when that avenue was cut off, she turned and tried to escape by another route. But, every time she took a few paces forward, more of the creatures appeared, blocking her escape. Sharon screamed and yelled hysterically, until her voice was gone. Once they had her surrounded, the creatures stopped in their tracks as if awaiting a command. From behind, a larger version of the creatures emerged from the treeline and strode forward until he reached the circle. Unbidden, the smaller creatures moved aside to make an opening for the new arrival to pass through. Sharon stood, frozen to the spot in terror, as the head-creature lurched up to her. It stood only a few feet away and began sniffing her, like an animal trying to identify a familiar object. With her mind gone, Sharon slumped to the ground, unconscious.
