35 Eighteen years earlier. ‘It’ll be fine,’ Lewis said, slapping Greg playfully on the back. ‘She won’t have to stay all night.’ Greg looked at the girl Lewis had his arm round. He had no idea what she’d been taking, but it wasn’t just alcohol. Knowing these sorts of house parties, it could have been anything. At parties like this, anything was fair game. He’d seen people inhaling deeply from jerry cans, drinking cleaning products and injecting god-knows-what into each other, all in the quest to get that next big hit. Those sorts of things had never interested Greg. He drank, of course, and he’d done the odd bit of puff, but never anything stronger than that. Just enough to fit in and not look too much of a d**k at parties. This girl, though, had clearly pushed the boundaries tonight.
