Kyra POV: Was it all a dream?

746 Words
I opened my eyes to sunlight coming through the curtains, I was in one of my oversized t shirts. I got out of my bed and walked to my washroom looking for signs that anyone other than me had been here. I could smell a faint scent of pine needles, but I brushed it off. There was no one in my house and it didn’t seem like anyone had even been here. I sighed. “It was really a dream” I whispered to myself.   “No, it wasn’t.” I heard a voice and jumped, nearly throwing myself onto the floor. “Who is there?” I screamed. “Oh my god, you are so dumb. It’s me, your wolf idiot.” I signed in relief.  “Oh, okay. Wait- That wasn’t a dream? So, he was really here? He really did that to me? But where did he go?” I question out loud sounding crazy.   At that moment I smelt something, something I never smelt before. I froze, turning around observing my surroundings quickly before rushing into my room.   “Don’t move so quickly, don’t breathe too hard, stay calm. Get to the hatch and get to the roof.”  Vixen spoke calmly, and I did as she said, moving slowly and pacing my breathing as I got to the hatch in the roof of my room. I clung to the shingles as I made my way to the chimney and pressed myself as close as I could to it while I looked around at my surroundings, when I spotted it. Standing in the tree lines, it looked like a wolf, but worse. It stood on its hind legs, most of its fur was gone leaving scaley looking grey flesh. I gasped, not moving a muscle as its heinous looking head whipped from side to side like it was searching for something. Gran said they didn’t come out this far anymore. I was in danger.  “Stay here, do not move. Don’t try to get away it will see you. They have heightened senses but only when their prey is moving.” Vixen explained.   “So, I just stay here hoping it gets bored and leaves?” I responded mentally so it wouldn’t hear me.   “Slide down to the roof and sit. You should be out of its line of sight. More than likely it smelt our shift and your scent which became stronger when I fully became part of you.” Vixen spoke once again. I slid down so slowly it barely seemed like I was moving. It whipped its head again in my direction, I froze in place waiting until it looked away again. I tried to keep my heart beat steady so it couldn’t hear it.   As soon as I managed to fully sit on the roof my phone started ringing, I quickly answered it. Thankfully I grabbed in before I climbed up on the roof. It was gran. “Hey darling, sorry for calling you so early, I’m sure you were sleeping. I was getting ready to go pick up my exit pass to come visit you and bring Bear to you.” she spoke softly. Bear was my dog; we had boarded him for a while due to my school schedule and Grans woke hours. “Oh, thanks gran. I thought you were coming to teach me about the shift, but it’s too late,” I whispered, “and now isn't the best time, one of the wendigos is right at the edge of the wood surrounding the cabin. My wolf thinks it smelt my shift and came looking.”   Gran gasped. “Get to the roof.”   “I’m already on the roof, I am sitting with my back to the chimney, watching it. I can see if but it can’t see me. My wolf said their eye sight sucks as long as I am not moving and my heart stays steady.”   Gran sighed in relief. “Good. I’m sending guards out there to kill it, that way you can come down and I can bring Bear. Wendigo don’t like dogs, and they don’t like fire, we will set up the torches around the cabin to make a protective circle.” She spoke fast but low so that it couldn’t hear her from the other side of my phone.   “Okay Gran, please hurry it’s really hot up here.” I whispered before hanging up.
