Evangeline POV: Bringing the Calvary

I ran with bear hot on my heels to the elders Counsil. I slammed the doors open the heads chambers and rushed in, “you have to send guards out armed to my cabin. My granddaughter is there and a wendigo is on the tree line. She is trapped on the roof of the cabin waiting for aide.” I shouted in urgency.   His eyes went wide, his mouth hung open, “Why would you leave her out there unprotected?” He quickly questioned me. I groaned, “I told you she wanted a break from the city! It has always been a safe place because it's so close to the city and I told her not to wonder far from the house.” I shouted in reply. Bear growled at him. “Are you going to send help or not?” I screamed.   “Yes, I will send a small platoon of guards out to secure your cabin and get rid of the Wendigo. You need to go with them and show them where they are headed, I do not advise you take your mutt with you.” He spoke rudely toward bear which made Bear bark and growl at him again.   I stifled my laugh at Bears annoyance. “I will show them, have them meet me at the gate.” I spun in my heels and stormed off headed back to the house to gran the bags I was taking with me to Kyra and I mind linked with Bear. (Yes, I can speak with dogs) “You stay by me, she would never forgive me if I let you get hurt and I would never forgive myself if we lost you” Bear huff in agreement before we headed toward the gate. Bear was the only companion I had left, but he was without a doubt more of Kyra's now.   Once we reached the gate, the guards were ready to go. The gate opened and we headed out on our hour-long journey to get to my granddaughter.    ***Kyra POV***    I was still sitting on the roof when someone mind-linked me. “Hey beautiful, sorry I wasn’t still there when you woke up. I had trouble back at my pack.” Gasping, I responded to him. “You’re fine, please don’t come back right now, guards from the city are on their way, a wendigo is on the tree line of my cabin, I am safe. I am on my roof waiting.”   “I am already on my way there.”  Growling through mind-link Vixen spoke up, “As your mate I cannot allow you to come any further. Turn back now.”  I heard Lucious whimper at her demands, but he cut off the link with us without responding.   A few moments later I seen someone appear on the other side of the house from the tree line, at first, I thought Lucious didn’t listen, then I seen several more people appear, it was Gran, she brought the Calvary to save my skin.  A wave of relief washed over me, the guards fought the wendigo back into the trees and when I could no longer see them, I heard a shriek come from the woods and the guards reappeared.  I stood up, my legs were like jelly from sitting for so long, I made my way stumbling to the opening in the roof, dropping down onto my bed, and walking to unlock the door.   Gran was standing there, waiting and wrapped her arms around me hugging me tightly. “We have work to do” she said before letting me go. I nodded and went to the large closet in the hallway and grabbed the torched that were in there. Bear was following me around, waggling his tail as I went to work setting up the torches. Gran started on the East side of the house and I started on the west side, we worked in a clock wise motion until we completed the torch circle. Lighting all of the torched as we went. As long as I kept oil in them during the day they would last all night which is when Wendigo usually hunt.  Once we were done, it was dark. I made dinner for Gran, bear and myself. Bear eats most of what we do, but none of the unsafe veggies. Gran tries to argue with me about how he can eat them, but I won't poison my dog.   After we finished dinner and I cleared the table, Gran sat me down and asked,” What did you mean earlier about it being too late to teach you how to properly shift?”
