The Last of the Shifters

Kyra POV: Explaining.

I stood there shocked at the fact Gran remembered what I said about already shifting. “Oh, uh- Well see- Hmmm.” I couldn’t find the words to explain what happened after she went back to the city. “What happened, just spit it out already I won’t judge you!” Gran spoke urgently as if she would die from anticipation. She has always been the one person I would talk to about everything including things I didn’t tell my best friend. “I- uh- I found my mate, I guess.” I whispered too embarrassed by the whole ordeal.  

“You found your mate!” She screamed at me, I couldn’t tell if she was excited or if she was mad. “You shifted three weeks early because you found your mate?!” she said again as if she wasn’t understanding what I just said. “Yes Gran, well er- he found me actually. The night after you left, I smelt a strange scent so I went to the roof to see who was here and there was a huge black wolf, he was really beautiful, He almost remined me of Bear, but he was solid black. I may have attacked him because he caught my scent when the wind blew.” I said shyly. “Anyways, I shifted that night, he stayed with me through it and my wolf, Vixen, said mate when she first spoke. So, I figure he was my mate, right? That’s what happens right?” I asked waiting for her to reassure me, but she sat there contemplating what I just said.  

“Did he shift back into this human form around you?” Gran asked, still blanking staring at the wall. “Yes, he shifted back into his human form actually while I was laying on him after I jumped off the roof.” I chuckled a little at the fact that I pulled a flying squirrel that night and leapt on top of a huge wolf who could have killed me. “He stayed here that night after I shifted. I told him to leave but thankfully since he didn’t and I fell asleep in the bath tub, he put me in bed. I probably would have gotten sick or drowned due to my own stupidity.” I sighed out in frustration. “Did you two- you know- mate?” Gran asked shakily.  

“What?! NO?! I’m still very much a virgin Gran.” I shrieked at her. “He tortured me to get information, but I did not lose my virginity to him. Against Ilea’s advice.” I breathed heavily. “Wait! He tortured you? What do you mean?” Gran asked shocked by what I had just told her. “Not like hurting me torture Gran, he uh- he sexually tortured me- with uh- his uh- fingers.” I blushed trying to explain how my mate fingered me to death so I would tell him my name. “WHY?!” she shrieked out. I put my head on my arms that were crossed on the table. “Because he wanted to know my name and I didn’t want to tell him, he overheard my conversation with Ilea so he knew about my bloodline, or he would have been digging for that secret too.” I whispered the last part of it so Gran wouldn’t hear but of course she had better hearing than expected for her being as old as she was.  

“You told your human friend about you being a hybrid shifter?” She questioned quietly. “Yes, she won't tell, we were the only ones in history class that didn’t view the shifters as monsters and she was actually really quiet when she was asking my questions. No one will know back in the city.” I sighed out. 

I got up and walked to the washroom, “Gran, I'm going to take a bath. I will be back in just a few. Please don’t be upset with me for everything that’s happened.” I felt like my whole body was made of lead. I could barely bring myself to walk into the washroom, I felt so drained from the events of today. Just as I was starting to drift off, I caught his scent. Why couldn’t he stay away like I asked? Why did he have to come here right now? I flinched when I heard a knock at the door. He was really hear? 

“Gran don’t answer that stupid door!” I screamed.  

“Why not?” Gran asked shocked. “It’s rude not to answer the door and it could be someone from the city to check on us” I sighed. “Gran it is not someone from the city I can smell his scent.” I hollered again. Gran laughed and I heard the front door open. I sighed and slapped myself in the face. Why would she do this? I really can’t believe that she opened the door for him. I could hear them talking.  

“Hello, you must be my granddaughters' mate” Gran said really bluntly when she let him in the house. “Yes, I am-” I couldn’t hear the grin on his face from his voice and before he could say anything else, I heard a loud slap sound that made Bear came running into the bathroom. I jumped out of the tub not thinking about how I was still completely naked or to grab a towel. 

I stood there shocked as the big bad wolf held his cheek and Gran stood there as if she did nothing to him. “What happened?!” I shrieked, “Did you hit him Gran?” She looked over at me smiling wide, before her face dropped when she looked at me. “What?” I asked not sure of her sudden demeaner change. At that moment, Lucious looked over at me and grinned his devilish grin. I looked down only to realize my mistake and spin around, running to the washroom and locking the door. “You two be nice to each other!” I shouted before getting back into the bath tub. Bear was still sitting at the edge of the tub and stuck his nose in, trying to get my attention for pets.
