Vic watched the kid wind his way through Max’s Bar, one of a handful of watering holes in town, wearing too-tight jeans and a tee shirt so thin Vic wasn’t sure the threads would hold together through the night. Vic recognized him from previous years, though he’d never taken the time to learn his name. He’d been too young. He was young still, but clearly, the kid was grown now. Vic could tell by the way he carried himself as much as anything: the kid knew what he wanted.
At least he thought he did.
Vic figured he wanted more than he knew how to ask for, figured he’d been like that once himself, was sure as s**t relieved those days were behind him.
