Chapter 4

954 Words
Luke's POV Part of my job is to go around the town and surrounding areas. I usually go with other pack members in case of any threats, but this time, I was going to do some minor errands, so I chose to go alone. It was easy to go around as I went in my car. After I got some items for Bertha, our head cook, I decided to stop by the library. I like to read on occasion and, though we've got plenty of books in our own library, I'm a nerd at heart, liking fiction, because there isn't enough fantasy in my life, I think to myself. I'm looking around the aisles and I hear a loud thud along with a crap! I walked around to see a young girl, an unfamiliar face. She's got headphones on. She had a pile of books that she dropped all over the floor. She starts to frantically pick them up and I decide to help her. Once I reached out to grab a book, she realized I was close to her and with a startled jump she looked at me, and just as fast, she looked back down. She had large, round, blue eyes with some green on them. She has her hair braided. Thick, ashy blond hair with strands that fell into her face. She doesn't fix them, she continues picking up the books in a hurry, gets up, and moves to the checkout area. I had said hello and asked if she was from here, but she ignored me. I kept trying to reach out to her, asking small questions, but maybe I was just making her more nervous. For some reason, I kept an eye on her, something felt odd. I noticed her look at me, she was looking intently, which made me even more curious. She checked her books out and, in a hurry, she left. I don't recall a face like hers around here before. Then again, we tend to get people that just pass by. I couldn't identify if she was human or not, which intrigued me. I looked through the window and saw her turn back and forth at least three times. She was scared, that much I knew. Now, I want to know why, and if it's something that WE should be concerned about. I went back to the pack and handed things to Bertha. -Have you seen Theo or Zach? Bertha told me she had not seen them in a bit. They might be at the office or training. I go to the training grounds first and I see Theo, not really surprised. As a beta, is natural that he wants to make sure his skills are up to the standard of his given role, plus, he likes to make sure he can outdo Zach. Instead of saying hi, in typical Theo nature, he reaches out for my arm to come in for an arm lock. I unwind my arm and turned around him to pin him on a chokehold. He quickly taps out. He knows I would put him to sleep. -Okay dude, it wasn't that serious. So much for being a Gamma. I am a Gamma, just remember that I was much more before I joined here. I grab Theo's shirt and throw it at him. Where is Zach? I ask Theo. -Where do you think? He's most likely doing paperwork with Caedmon We head together inside the pack house and make our way to the office. In it, there he is, Zach, looking over papers with Caedmon. Theo and Zach are identical twins, but completely different personalities, like brains and brawns. Theo is the one constantly training, strong and vicious, but he lacks more of the tactical elements of battle, which is why Zach is the perfect compliment. Zach can analyze and think on his toes, keeping his composure under any circumstances. Caedmon definitely has a great set of betas as his right arm duo, and I'm right there, by his left. Caedmon is a young alpha, then again, he is older, just by a year though. But, I was also a young alpha once. -Do you need anything Luke? asked Zach as Caedmon looked at the pile of papers in front of him. Nothing major, I reply, though I'd like to bring something to your attention. Take it as me being curious. They looked at me and waited for what I was going to say. I went to the library today and I saw an unusual kid. Well, a young teen, to be exact. I had not seen her before today and I couldn't really pin point if she was anything in particular, but, for some reason, she did call my attention. Their interest peaked. -Did she pose a threat? Was she alone? A rogue, or a passerby? They kept asking questions that I couldn't answer. I'm not sure man, but what I can tell you for sure is that I had not seen that face around here before. Another thing that called my attention was her reaction. She looked quite scared. She even paced outside of the library, as if she was trying to figure out where she was heading. This last statement made Caedmon's right eyebrow curve up. -Go out tomorrow and check the surroundings again. If you see her, keep an eye out. If something is up, let me know and I'll make my way down there. Take Theo with you since he doesn't seem too busy. Theo was going to reply, but he decided to stay quiet as I gave him a smirk. I hope I see her tomorrow. Something is definitely up here.
