Chapter 29

Nyx POV My fury takes over as we keep fighting wolves, but everything comes to a halt when Mishka holds Mila by the throat. Let her go and take me. If my life is what you want, you can have it. Mila looks at me with tears in her eyes, asking me to stop. Mishka drops Mila to the floor as a larger wolf quickly shows up and grabs Mila by her shirt, dragging her away. I kick Mishka's face as I start running behind Mila. It only takes me a few minutes until I step through a trunk, as I jump to land, a thick branch stabs my calf. Fck! How could I be so foolish and let myself get hurt like this? A guttural scream rips out of me as Caedmon comes to my aid, with Luke following behind me. Luke holds my leg down as he helps me by removing the branch that had gone through my calf. Rage cannot describe what I feel as I make my way back. Theo has Mishka kneeling in front of him with her head bleeding from the kick I gave her. Caedmon and Luke helped me walk as I was partially dragging the leg that I'd just busted. I let go of their arms and looked at her, "Where are they taking her." As I say this, she starts laughing, BTCH, YOU CAN'T COMPEL ME. This angers me even more. How is she confidently saying this? You will pay with your life, says Theo as he holds her hair. Wait... I say as I look at her. I really hate doing this. After tasting the sweetest thing in my life, I know you'll taste like garbage. But don't worry, If what you say is true, there are other ways I can get the information I need. I move Theo's arm away from her as I brutally push her head to the side and sink my teeth into her neck. She screams as I dig my fangs deeper into her neck. I can see the images popping in my head in chaotic order. Her state of mind was evident by all I was seeing. As I drink her blood, I try to focus on any images that relate to who she dealt with. And then I saw it. She talked to other wolves in the northern section of the territory, right by the border. Someone compelled her before I did. For some reason, their face is not clear. This is why my command didn't work. Whoever did this ensured that my command wouldn't work. I release her neck as she gasps for air. I cleaned my mouth with my hands and spit out the rest of her blood. You better hope that she is okay, or I will make you suffer until you beg for death, and even then, I will still delight myself in your suffering for longer. Because of my strong state and her blood, my leg had already healed almost fully. I started moving in the direction I saw them running, and Caedmon tries to stop me. Nyx, please wait a moment. I cannot, she is my sister. It is my job to make sure she is safe. I will not let her suffer at their hands. Caedmon tells Theo to drop Mishka to a warrior so that she can be placed in a cell. Zach stays behind so that the pack house is not unguarded as I make my way along with Theo, Luke, and Caedmon toward the north. We will find her. Caedmon's POV She is absolutely fierce but reckless when it comes to Mila. I can understand her feelings, but as my mate, she is my priority. She started running, and we moved after her. Mila has no scent, but the wolf that grabbed her does. That is our current advantage. As she is running, we notice other silhouettes around us. A quick click makes Luke stop in his tracks as he fumbled. We all stopped beside him and realized that he had been shot. It was quick and small, like a dart, but the scent was undeniable. It was wolfsbane. Theo goes to him as I approach Nyx. She turns around in time to warn me, and I dodge the upcoming shot. They threw multiple in a row that missed me as Theo pushed me to the side and covered Nyx. He received multiple hits. Nyx starts removing some of the darts to avoid a heavy toll on Theo's body. Wolves come out as they start shifting, and I start fighting. Theo weakly gets up, and so does Luke. Nyx removes other darts on Theo's body. He walked towards me. His stance is weak, but he is not willing to go out without a fight. Nyx POV We were ambushed. There were wolves hiding and covering their scents. They attacked us, hitting Theo and Luke in the process with what looked like darts. When I pulled one off of Theo's back, I saw it. Like it? Concentrated wolfsbane. It was the wolf, the one that had Mila in his mouth. Now, he had shifted back to his human form and held Mila to the floor. His foot was on her face. Luke and Theo got up. Even though Luke is slightly swaying, he stands beside me. I remove the other darts attached to Theo's back, and he quickly goes to Caedmon as they start fighting behind us. The man in front of us doesn't move. I'm studying the situation. I could go in with Luke, push him off of Mila, and take her back. We could kill him after that, or take him to be questioned. I think that is what Caedmon would want to do. I hear a thud, and it is Theo on the floor. After fighting multiple wolves, he succumbed to the wolfsbane. More wolves come in, and we continue the fight. Mila would have to wait. But I need her free now! Caedmon's POV Theo collapses, and the other wolves focus on me. I try to keep them away from Nyx and Luke, but others join in. This is crazy! Where is our backup? It had only been a few minutes, but this felt so long. We were in a tight spot. I end up shifting, but Luke cannot. He has already been dosed. He is fighting to the best of his abilities. Suddenly a wolf comes for his right flank, ripping a piece of his abdomen in the process. Luke drops to the floor, bleeding heavily. Mila is screaming as Nyx holds onto Luke. She drops him on the floor and goes for the kill on the wolf holding Mila. She jumps up, and he is ready to counterattack. With that, she immediately drops and tackles him, forcing him to the ground as she bites and rips his throat. As I try to reach her, I feel the burning sensation of silver chains landing on my torso. There were wolves that had shifted back. Some had thick gloves in their hands as they handled the chains. They came prepared with even someone carrying items for them. This was well thought out. The chains start forcing me to change back to my human form. Nyx lifts Mila and tells her to hide as she comes running toward me. The other wolves come in to attack, and she starts fighting viciously. I start screaming her name and trying to reach her as I felt other chains landing on me. She runs towards me as she is being attacked, and suddenly she stops. She moves her arm to touch her back and yanks, pulling out another dart. The fcker that shot it exits the tree he was hiding behind. This feeling should be familiar to you, though the sedatives have been improved in case you are harder to manage. The man came closer as I started pushing and pulling. Fenrir was going crazy, and I was half-shifted. I dragged a man towards me and broke his neck as another chain wrapped around the arm I used to kill that rogue. Nyx keeps moving toward me, and another shot comes her way. At this point, she is not dodging them. I'm going insane. I kept screaming her name and fighting. By this point, I'm fully in my human form. The chains are burning and digging into my skin. I can feel the flesh tugging and ripping as I keep fighting against them and the wolves. Her steps are slowing down, and I'm desperately trying to reach out to her. The shooter walks slowly beside her as she lands on her knees. He switches the gun he has and points it straight at me. Fenrir hasn't stopped, even with this attack, and neither have I. We try to get some leverage to keep it together and shift again. Suddenly, the same click sound happened; this time, it was on my chest. As I look at Nyx, another dart is shot at me. Wolfsbane is running through my bloodstream. Nyx takes slow gasps, and the shooter pushes her to the floor. He looks at her ear to ensure it is who he is looking for and confirms it. Nyx tries to reach her hand towards me, and so do I. My eyes start getting heavy. I can't believe this. I promised them safety. I'm failing here. Theo is out. Luke is out. I see the man smirk at me as he picks her up and starts moving. They place her on top of another wolf, tie her down and leave. I hear other steps and howls, my men. But they were here too late...
