Chapter 21

1261 Words
Mila POV If I looked forwards to school prior to registering. Now, my excitement was stronger. I kept receiving letters every week on campus. This brought some ease to my heart as I knew that she was okay. How was she feeding though? I try to push those thoughts away. Nyx was very faithful. I would receive a letter every Wednesday. The letter was always waiting for me and I gratefully grabbed it. At this point, I have a collection of letters in my room...It was ours once. The letters are placed in a locked box under the bed to avoid anyone seeing them. Things on campus are going great and I have been able to make some friends, my closest one being Adeline. She's a year older than me and although she would never take Nyx's place, Adeline was protective of me, just like she was. At the pack house things kept moving along. But for me? It wasn't the same. I am happy to have a home and people that care for me. Bertha always has a snack for me when I return from school, but one of the things that irks me is Mishka. She is another wolf in this pack and I have had her close to me making comments under her breath, but they were intentional. I know they're intended for me. She speaks about hybrids as freaks of nature and diminishes me whenever she has the chance. She's honestly a coward. She whispers as she is close to me in a crowd, but becomes loud when we have seen each other with fewer people around. Mishka takes delight in telling me how Nyx is, to the point that she has painted pictures in my head regarding Nyx's whereabouts. From being captured, to being abused, or even dead and her body decomposing somewhere. I brush her away. My silence has proved to be my greatest strength. It irks Mishka to see that her words have no effect on me, even if at times they have. I will never give her the satisfaction of seeing me hurt. Three months, it's been three months. Another Wednesday, another letter that I was happy to receive. I went to the office to check for it and I had no letter. I felt the pit of my stomach drop, but maybe she just forgot, right? But it didn't make sense. She always sent the letter, and from the looks of it, it was sent on time so that it would arrive faithfully. Maybe there's a delay. I'll wait a few more days. A whole week, a whole week has passed and nothing! I went to the office and yet again, no letter. I gave it an extra day and went back on Thursday, and there it was. Ease filled my heart as I finally received a letter again. I went back and ran into the bathroom and the stall that had become my spot to read her letters. But this time, rather than being happy to read from her, my heart started beating fast, I could feel my palms getting sweaty and my forehead starting to get cold. They are coming. You are in danger. The shortest letter I have received and it had the most impact. I left the stall and I bumped into Adeline. She asked me if I was okay, to which I said that my stomach was acting up and I was going to leave early. I called Luke to pick me up. Caedmon's POV My heart is shattered. Fenrir was not the same. His calm and composed demeanor was taken over my rage and pain. As wise as my wolf is, he has been on edge since that day and so have I. Food doesn't taste as good anymore. I can't enjoy sleeping. I look at the clock and the days go by and still hope to pick up her scent once more. I am irritable and Zach helps me deal with the usual paperwork. Theo has been somewhat distant, still feeling guilt for what happened. I don't hold it against him anymore, but he hasn't forgiven himself. He spends most of his days training while Luke tries to distract himself by reading and watching over Mila. I get a knock on the door and once it opened I see that it's Mishka yet again. She's wearing a tight button-up blouse with the buttons of her chest undone, exposing her breasts, along with a black pencil skirt and red pumps. I know why she's coming in. She has been relentless in her quest to seduce me and I keep rejecting her. I asked Zach to please escort her out as I am in no mood to deal with her childish behavior. She's not coming back! I don't know why you're so obsessed with that fcking hybrid when I am here. I've been here! Filled with rage, I get up from my chair and punch my desk, piercing it with my punch down the middle, which makes shards of wood fly off as others cut my skin. Her eyes widened and Zach closed the door in front of her. Smooth man. Now we've gotta buy a new desk. He's right to a degree, not about the desk but about how I've been snapping recently. I catch my breath when I feel Luke mind-link me. He tells me that Mila is not feeling well and that he's picking her up. We have been caring for her since before Nyx's departure and now even more so. Knowing more in detail about their background made me want to ensure Mila's safety. I could tell how fearful she was, and I didn't want her to experience that again. She's about to join the pack and, quite frankly, she has adjusted fairly well. I can tell that she still suffers from the fact that Nyx has left her, but she was strong and focused on her own growth. She was even going to the teen's training grounds and has shown her prowess and speed. About thirty minutes pass and Luke links me again. Mila needs to talk to you, clear your schedule. This must be important for her to need so much time. I inform Zach and he clears the meeting I had as well as the papers from my broken desk. Mila's POV Luke picked me up and I told him that I needed to talk to Caedmon as soon as possible. This can't wait. Because it's Luke and Nyx trusted him, I trust him too. He has been with me and has made me feel safe. He showed me the library in the pack, some of his favorite books and even part of what Nyx had been planting. Some of the flowers have bloomed and they now decorate my room. My sister's departure had really taken a toll on all of them. Trusting that he would keep it to himself until we got to the pack house, I showed him the letter. I know he has questions but I ask him to please hold them until we get there and to speed up. He rushes through the town and we make it to the pack. As he opens the door, I volt out to run to the room. He ran besides me expecting some sort of hint of what was going on, but I couldn't say. Not yet. Entering the room, I go to the bed and get the box that's at the bottom of it. Now we can go.
