Nyx POV
A smile creeps upon my face, and just as quickly, it fades. I know what I must do. Calling them out, they stepped out of the bushes towards me. Big mistake. As one lounge at me, I'm pissed. I will protect Mila! I dodged to the side and kicked his ribs. Knocking him to the floor, I raised my leg to kick him in the head. A crack is heard. It came from his skull breaking. The second one jumps right at me, biting my arm. Taking the opportunity, I put my hand on his side, causing him to burst into blood, fur, and guts, leaving part of the pieces of his head and limbs on the ground. The third one leaves, and the huntress in me decides to take advantage of this. After all, a squirrel or a rabbit wouldn't fully satiate me, and this hand needed to heal quickly. Lurking in the shadows around the trees, trying to use the cover of the night to hide, the wolf shifts and puts clothing on. The silly little lamb doesn't know that stopping was a big mistake. He is up for slaughter. All he has time for is to feel my hand reach for his neck and my fangs pierce his skin. Wrapping my other hand and legs around him, I could feel him struggle. His heartbeat slows down, and I keep gorging on his blood. He doesn't taste too good, but I'm not going to stop until his body collapses on the floor. Only then do I take my leave. Cleaning up is not my priority. After all, it is only a matter of time before they realize I'm back.
Caedmon's POV
After the warning that Nyx sent, we started preparing, and Luke kept Mila company. I read the letters. They still carried her scent. It was faint but present enough for me and Fenrir to detect. Our mate was strong, that's for sure. But she was stubborn, and that was something that would need to be handled later. With Theo having men walk around the perimeter, things should be solid. Or at least, that's what I thought until a few moments ago. Theo contacts me to inform me of a fight that ensued right outside our borders. His men were patrolling and found the scene. Wolves were dead. Theo made his way to the area to inspect what had happened. Once he arrived, the way he described the scene to me sounded like it came from a horror film. There was a wolf dead on the floor. He didn't even shift to his human form. Moving it for a moment allowed Theo to see the opening on the side of his head. It was cracked. On the floor, there was another destroyed. Limbs were in pieces, not even whole limbs, and the rest of the body and organs were in chunks and splattered all over. About ten feet away, they found another body. This one was in its human form but also dead. What piqued my interest was the fact that this body had bite marks on the neck. I'm certain it's Nyx, and she is close. Fenrir wanted to burst out and howl for her, but we didn't know if she could hear or respond to us. If she's hiding, it's for a reason. As Theo and his company were cleaning those bodies up, I smelled it. The same smell that made my wolf stir uncontrollably and made me crave a taste; teakwood. It made me get up from the desk and look through my window, and there she was, standing just by the gate. Even under the light of the moonlight, I could see her. There was blood on her clothing, and her eyes were bright. She looked like a goddess that had just come from battle, and she did. Linking Zach and Luke, I tell them that Nyx is here. Luke goes to Mila's room and tells her about Nyx's arrival, and without hesitation, she runs with him outside. I tried not to burst out of the doors, and, keeping calm, I stepped out of my office and went downstairs. I opened the main doors to see her still standing outside the gate. Mila was already there. She couldn't contain her feelings and started crying as she ran to her. Opening the gate, she looked at Nyx with some apprehension. She asked her if she was hurt, to which Nyx replied that she wasn't. Just hearing those two words spoken by her made my skin get covered in goosebumps. I wondered how that voice would sound in my ears as she moaned. Mila hugged her, and Nyx responded back. She pulled Mila away, telling her that her clothing would get dirty.
Looking at her, I asked what had happened. She only replied with," Danger is approaching. That's why I came back." Those words felt like daggers stabbing my chest, for I had hoped to see some response from her.
Nyx POV
I walked to the gate and stayed there. Looking up towards the second floor, I saw Caedmon. I felt like, even at a distance, we could still feel each other's gaze. He left the window, and a few minutes later, the doors opened to Luke, Zach, Caedmon, and Mila. She ran at me, stopped as she opened the gate, and saw me all bloodied. I told her I was okay as she hugged me, but I pushed her gently as I didn't want her clothing to get stained by this. I was asked about what happened, and I re-iterated what I wrote in the letter, that danger was approaching. They invited me inside, and as eyes followed me in shock at my state, they led me back to the room for a shower and a change of clothing. For that, I was extremely grateful. Blood spiraled down the drain with the water as I scrubbed my skin, I even had pieces of tissue tangled in my hair from that damned wolf I killed. Mila had left clothing for me; a pair of skinny jeans with a purple T-shirt, underwear, and a pair of sneakers. Dressing up, Luke was outside the door waiting for me. I always felt connected in a way to him. He almost felt like family. I told Mila to wait for me in the room as Caedmon wanted to speak. Joined by Luke, we made our way to the office, where everyone was waiting. As we entered the office, Caedmon was sitting by his desk as his other two trusted friends sat on the couch and chair beside him, respectively, to his right and left.
I'm glad to see that you are doing well. I would like to ask you a few questions.
Go ahead.
Why did you leave? Where were you? Who is after Mila, and are they after you? What exactly has been going on?
That's a lot of questions at the same time...
I had promised myself the sea. Part of the reason that I left was to find it and to be at peace. The other reason I left was for what I did. Losing control was not something I expected. There was just something so intox... ahem. Like I was saying, I hurt you, and I'm sorry. As for who is after us, it is the company called BioLife, and I believe they are after both of us. In regard to what has been going on. Well... if you mean with us, it's a bit of a story...
