Caedmon's POV
It's been a rough week. From Nyx trying to run away, to asking for work, and now she's working the land and occasionally the kitchen. I don't want her to work, but I have no choice but to allow it. Goddess, she is gorgeous. Her eyes are different colors. Jairus told me that it is a type of sectoral heterochromia. In her case, her left eye is blue with patches of a honey color, while her right eye has a red hue, like the color that a leaf radiates with the rays of light in the fall. From her hair, her skin, her curves, everything about her is absolutely enticing to me. She makes my mouth water, which in turn makes it hard to keep my pants fitting properly. Getting a whiff of her scent turns me on. It makes me want to make her mine. Having her close makes me struggle with constant erections, so, I keep my distance while ensuring that Luke keeps an eye on her, and I know he will not oppose, as he is her Gamma. He will protect her, but also help her feel at ease. I know she will look even more stunning once she is back to a healthy state, which won't happen if she doesn't feed correctly. Zach linked me and Luke gave me more details as they were about to leave the diner. She is not doing well and hasn't fed in a week. I think it has to do with being here. She had a supplier out in the streets of the town, but now, maybe she doesn't dare to ask. She could easily tell Jairus, although I'd prefer she told me.
Mishka keeps constantly being a nuisance to me. She's either coming in riddled with questions, or trying to be flirtatious. It isn't something I care for, not even before I had found my mate.
Luke informs me when they're close. The town is about forty miles away from our pack house, and I wanted to make sure that there is already a bag prepped for Nyx. Jairus is super diligent, so that was already done.
Nyx POV
We get in the car and make our way back to the packhouse. I feel so sick, but I have things to do. Mila held my hand and I assured her that I was okay. The drive already felt long, but this one felt like forever. The cottage wasn't far from the town, so we always walked (not that driving was ever an option). Once we arrived to the house, I picked my bags. Luke stopped us and pulled me quickly to the side to tell me that Jairus was waiting for me. They had a bag of blood for me ready to go. I thanked him and told him I would be there later. Don't get me wrong, I appreciate the help, but something about it bothered me. I felt weak and dependant on them. I could provide it on my own. I just needed enough money to get it. Maybe it's not such a bad thing that they can provide it. But I owe them so much already. We made our way upstairs and we finally decided to put the clothing in the closet and the rest in the dresser. I made my way to the bathroom. Filling the tub as hot as it was possible, the bathroom was filled with steam. With a fizzy ball in the water, I laid in there. Even with the temperature of the water, I felt cold. Starvation is hitting badly. There's options, I know that, but I still feel uneasy. Mila knocks on the door and I tell her that I'm okay. She asked if I would go down for dinner at seven, to which I replied that I wouldn't today. I could barely eat a measly piece of toast, I couldn't bear to see any more food. Time has past. I don't know how long I've been here. The water started to feel cold and I'm still in the tub. I know I have to make my way out of the bathroom. Getting out of the tub and getting a towel was so taxing. I wrapped the towel around my chest and go back to the room. Instead of lying in bed, I turn on the small fireplace under the mounted TV. Even with that, I felt somewhat cold. I think I heard a knock on my door but I don't even have the energy check or to even reply. I just ignore it. Laying here is the best I could currently do. A hard knock resounded in the room. This one was different. Luke usually knocked in a softer way. He had a rhythm that he followed every time he knocked on our door, it was always one knock, then two faster ones. A low voice spoke out, Nyx, are you okay? Am I? Not really, but I couldn't say that. Instead, I kept quiet. Hopefully they will go away and I could sleep the rest of the night right here. If you don't respond, I'll come in. By the time I could even register what was said, the door was already open.
Caedmon POV
Mila went to dinner by herself. She said that Nyx decided to rest. Jairus also told me that Nyx didn't go to her for the bag. Why is she so stubborn? At dinner, I told Luke to check on Nyx. He came back saying that she's in the room but there was no response which concerned him, but he didn't want to just burst through. I'm not happy about that at all. At this point, I decided to go myself. Fenrir is circling in my head as I make my way upstairs. He is so protective of her already, even though we haven't connected yet. I hope that once she knows me, once we are finally accepting of each other, that she will be marked and finally be mine, and I will be hers. Up the stairs, I can already smell her. Such a sensual scent, perfect for me. Going through the hallways feels like walking on a high, a trance that I don't want to break away from. I knocked on her door with no reply. I know she's in there, I can smell her. Once I knock again, I state that if she doesn't reply, I would just enter. With no response, I made my way in and found her in a towel on the floor and if my jaw wasn't already tight, it would've fallen to the floor.
