Chapter 9 - Patrick's withering flower

Patrick POV

I'm doing my morning, afternoon and night routine, of checking on my luna.

I built her a house far from the pack house, because since what happened, she doesn't really want to interact with anyone but me, and sometimes Gabriel.

The house is surrounded with warriors at all times, just so she can feel safe, but they are under strict orders not to interact with her and never enter the house.

So I have to make these trips three times a day every day from my office to our now home, just to make sure she is okay, that she is still hanging on to what's left of life.

I enter our bedroom, and as usual, the tray of food I left for her in the morning is still the same, untouched.

“Lauren, you haven’t eaten anything the last two days” I say to my mate as I close the door behind me.

“I’m not hungry, Patrick” she says, pushing the tray away while she is sitting on her chair.

I guess I should be grateful that she is at least out of bed today.

It’s either the bed or the chair by the window that looks out over the lake.

“You can’t survive on a piece of bread and a sip of water every two days baby” I say, sitting in the chair next to her.

“And who said I want to survive at all?” .

“Please don’t talk like that, I can’t live without you” I say taking her hand, pleading with her.

“And that’s the only reason I’m fighting death, so please, release me from your love, let me go… I’m not worth it anymore… not after what they did to me” she says with tears in her eyes.

“ What they did changes nothing. I love you today as much as I loved you the day I first saw you… when you were stealing the frogs from the science lab and releasing them from the window… remember what you said” I say getting on my knees in front of her, still holding her hands.

“Yes… no animal should be kept captive and if you are a true animal yourself you should defend your own” she says with a hint of herself coming back.

“and I said but I’m not a frog … do you remember what you said to me then?” I say putting a golden lock of her hair that’s hiding her beautiful hazel eyes behind her ear.

“you don’t look much better than one to me” she says, chuckling.

“Do I still look like a frog to you?” I say teasingly, kissing her hand.

“No… you look like an alpha who should have a fit Luna by his side” she says with a sad smile.

“I have the best one, you” I say with a hand on her cheek.

“I’m not anymore, I’m broken, I can’t even defend myself, let alone my pack… please Patrick, reject me, it will be easier than feeling the pain of my death” she pleads with tears in her eyes.

“That will never happen, I will never leave you and you are not leaving me. Not even death is taking you away from me. Now finish your food, I have to finish some business and when I come back, I better find this tray empty” I don’t wait for her response before I’m out of the door and head to my office.

I can’t hear her talk like that, I can’t even imagine life without her.

“Is this even a secure line, Patrick?” A supposed ally asks on the phone.

“Yes it is, now are you joining me or not” I ask running out of patience.

“I’m sorry pal, but I can’t defy the king and-”, I don’t let him finish and smash the phone into pieces, cutting off the coward on the other end.

Another w***e lover, how can they call her their queen? a f*****g hunter.

Yes, my dad was a friend and an ally of the king, but he is dead now.

I never agreed on their unholy union, but I went along with what my dad wanted, with what the circumstances demanded, but after what hunters did to Lauren, and what little help the king offered, I can’t anymore.

I will have my vengeance on the royal scums and the filth that follows them.

“Alpha, they’ve arrived” My gamma informs me.

He still hasn’t fully healed from the beating I’ve given him.

I shouldn’t have done that, I will always regret it.

“Thanks, Ben”

Now I have to welcome the evil spun of the royal family, the joke that is our future queen.

Not for long though.

Gabriel POV

Why did she snap at me like that in the dining hall?

Is she pissed I tried to kiss her?

Well she didn’t seem pissed when alpha fucker was flirting with her.

Why does she keep embarrassing me like that?

She has no respect for me whatsoever.

She is such a princess.

I mean look at her just standing there with her gorgeous blue eyes and perfect high ponytail... Oh and that body of hers… wait!

What was I saying?

Yes, she is just standing there while everyone else does the work.

“Do you need help with that?” I ask not meaning it at all.

“Help with what?”.

“Your luggage… oh, I forgot, princesses don’t do that low-ranking stuff” Boom!

“And betas do?”, Okay, I didn’t think that one through, I guess… f**k.

“Gaby, I’ve missed you” Leah says, jumping on me and kissing me.

I hate when she does that.

“You love it”.

“Shut up, phoenix”.

“MATE” Zander growls. WHAT!

Hell no.

“MATE” Leah growls too.

Fuck no.

“No, she is not and no, you are not” I tell both of them, like it would matter.

“Get away from her” Zander growls again with eyes pitch black.

“Like hell I will” I growl right back.

“Gab-” Leah tries to say something, but I cut her off.

“QUIET”, I know, I’m being an asshole, but this is not happening.

“Don’t talk to her like that” Zander says coming at me, but the princess stops him.

“What’s wrong with you? deal with it even if she is your girlfriend, because they are mates” She says pissed.

Is she pissed for her cousin’s sake? or because she thinks Leah is my girlfriend?

It doesn’t matter now.

“She is sure as hell not your cousin’s mate” i snap at her.

“And why the f**k not?” Zander growling again.

“what’s going on?” Eli says, showing up at the perfect time.

“Eli, take your sister back home” i tell him, more like shout.

“Gab, you can’t do that” Leah objects.

“ Yes, I can and I will, GO HOME NOW” I beta command her.

She is shocked and pissed but has no other choice but to follow my command.

It’s going to be a tough one making her forgive me, but I will deal with it.

“You are overreacting, you’ll ruin everything”

“No, I’m not, this union can’t happen, and you know why”

“Where the hell do you think you are taking her” Zanders snarls in Eli’s face.

“It’s okay, I’ll see you later” Leah says to Zander with a touch of her hand, and he calms down like he wasn’t about to murder Eli.

“What the f**k is wrong with you? You think you can defy the goddess’s will” the princess yells at me.

“When it comes to my family, I will and you are not my sister’s mate” i say the last part, pointing a finger in Zander's face.

“Sister?” they both say… relieved?

“Welcome” Alpha Patrick says.

Fuck, I hope he didn’t hear any of that.
