At a small hospital far from the bustling city in Texas, a patient had just been admitted after a terrible motorcycle accident. The hospital was small, underfunded, and lacked the necessary equipment to handle severe injuries. The doctors were already discussing transferring the patient to a larger medical facility when, against all odds, he suddenly woke up.
The nurses rushed to check on him, shocked by his unexpected recovery. The doctor quickly stepped forward, shining a light into his eyes to check his pupil response. “Can you hear me?” the doctor asked, waving a hand in front of the patient’s face.
The man slowly blinked and let out a soft groan. His head throbbed with unbearable pain, and his vision was blurry. He tried to sit up, but a firm yet gentle hand stopped him.
“Son, please don’t move. You have injuries, and moving too much might cause bleeding,” said an older woman sitting by his bedside.
Confused, the patient turned to look at her. His eyebrows furrowed. “Who... who are you?” His voice was hoarse, barely above a whisper.
The woman’s face fell, and tears welled up in her eyes. “Son, it’s me… your mother,” she said, reaching out to touch his arm gently.
The man flinched away, panic flashing across his face. “Mother?” He shook his head. “No. That’s not possible. My mother is Stef, and my brother Allen is waiting for me at home,” he said firmly.
The woman, Glory, felt her heart shatter. She had been preparing herself for bad news, but she never imagined her son would forget her completely. Tears streamed down her face, but she forced herself to remain calm.
“Son, your wife and baby are on their way here. They will be so happy to see you awake,” she said softly, hoping that seeing them would help him remember.
“Wife?” the man scoffed, looking around at the hospital room. His gaze landed on the doctor, and he pointed at Glory. “Doctor, this woman is suffering from dementia! Please take her away from me!” he exclaimed.
The nurses exchanged pitying glances. The doctor sighed and turned to Glory. “Mrs. Bill, I need to speak with you privately,” he said, gesturing for her to step outside.
Glory wiped her tears and nodded before following the doctor out of the room.
Inside, the man—who was actually Rio Hilton trapped in Glen’s body—rubbed his temples. His mind was spinning. Nothing made sense. He had been in his luxury car, on his way to pick up Allen, and then… crash. That was the last thing he remembered. But now, he was in a cheap hospital bed, surrounded by strangers claiming to be his family.
“Where is my phone?” he suddenly asked, searching under the pillow and blankets. “Where is it?” His hands trembled as he looked around. “Did someone steal it? That phone is worth a million dollars!” he shouted.
At that moment, the door swung open. A young woman carrying a baby rushed inside. Her eyes filled with relief as she saw him awake.
“Glen!” she cried, setting the baby down beside Rio in the bed before wrapping her arms around him. She buried her face in his neck and sobbed. “Thank God you’re okay! I was so scared!”
Rio stiffened, his body going rigid. His heart raced in his chest.
“Who are you?” he blurted out, pushing her away. “Nurse! Someone is trying to assault me!”
Bella froze, her lips parting in shock. “Glen… it’s me, Bella… your wife.”
“No, that’s not possible!” Rio shouted, his breathing ragged. “I don’t know you! I am Rio Hilton! This must be a mistake!”
Glory rushed back into the room just as Bella’s eyes filled with fresh tears. She turned to her mother-in-law, confused and heartbroken.
“What’s happening to him?” Bella whispered.
Glory sighed and took Bella’s hand, leading her a few steps away. “Bella, I’m so sorry. The doctor told me that the accident caused Glen to suffer from confabulatory amnesia. His mind is creating false memories.”
Bella’s lips trembled. She turned to look at her husband—no, the man who used to be her husband. His eyes were wild with confusion, fear, and frustration.
She clenched her fists and took a deep breath. If he had lost his memories, then she had to be patient. She had to be strong for him.
“Glen,” she said gently, walking back to him. “I know you’re confused, but you need to eat something. Please, just have a few bites, okay?”
Rio’s stomach growled. He hated to admit it, but he was starving. He eyed Bella suspiciously. “What do you want from me?”
“I just want you to eat,” Bella said, forcing a smile. She picked up a spoonful of food and held it to his lips. “Say ‘ah.’”
Rio hesitated. He had no idea what was going on, but one thing was clear—he wasn’t getting out of here anytime soon. If he refused to cooperate, they might sedate him again. So, he played along.
“Fine,” he muttered, opening his mouth.
Bella’s eyes softened as she fed him. She wiped a stray grain of rice from the corner of his lips. “Good boy,” she said teasingly.
Rio glared at her. “I’m not a dog,” he grumbled.
Bella giggled. “Smile for me,” she said, holding up her phone. “Your father wants to see that you’re okay.”
Rio sighed and forced a smile.
Bella snapped the picture and turned the phone around to show him.
That’s when everything changed.
Rio’s fake smile vanished as he stared at the screen. The man in the photo wasn’t him. The hospital bed, the bandages, the surroundings—it was all real. But the face… it didn’t belong to him.
His heart beatcso fast violently against his ribs. He snatched the phone from Bella’s hand and switched to the front camera.
What he saw made his blood run cold.
The face staring back at him wasn’t Rio Hilton. It was a stranger’s. A man with dark hair, unfamiliar features, and weary eyes.
“No…” Rio whispered, his hands shaking. He looked at Bella, then at Glory, then back at the phone.
“This… this isn’t me,” he stammered. “Where is my body? WHERE IS MY BODY?”
He started ripping off the IV tubes attached to his arm, his breathing frantic.
The nurses rushed inside, trying to restrain him.
“I AM RIO HILTON! LET ME OUT OF HERE!” he screamed.
One of the nurses injected a tranquilizer into his arm. The world around him blurred, and he felt himself losing control.
Before he passed out, he heard Bella’s soft sobs.
As darkness swallowed him, one last thought crossed his mind.
I have to escape. I need to find out what happened to me… before it’s too late.
