"And him?" Dominic asked, nodding toward Ethan. "Do you know who he is?"
Amber looked at Ethan, her brow furrowing in confusion. "No. Should I?"
Ryan let out a low whistle. "I think she has amnesia."
I seized on this explanation, suddenly understanding what Amber might be doing. "Amber," I said cautiously, "that's Ethan Blackwood. You were engaged to him until recently."
She looked genuinely bewildered. "No, that's not right. I'm engaged to Dominic. I would never be with... him." She glanced at Ethan with obvious distaste.
"This is ridiculous!" Ethan exploded. "Stop acting, Amber! Everyone knows you're doing this to humiliate me!"
Dominic's hand came to rest protectively on Amber's head. "I think we should call her doctor," he said calmly. "She needs to be examined."
