Chapter 12: Keep me closer

It’s been almost two weeks since I saw Eleanor for the last time. I’m worried about her, I called her two times but she didn’t answer. Doesn’t she miss me? Because I do. I know I screwed it, but we are meant to be together. We are meant to rule this pack, have children, the future alpha of our pack, we are meant to be happy together.

Is it being a beta more important for her than all that?

It was a grey afternoon, it’s been raining all day long, and I finished work an hour ago so I’m in my living room reading a book in front of the chimney. Trying not to think about Eleonor, but it’s almost impossible. Claire told me it’s going to be like that till our bond is stronger and until we've committed and marked each other. My phone started vibrating in my pocket. It was Claire.

-Hello?

-Kyle, a car from the Blue Moon Pack has arrived, and Eleonor is inside.

-What?

-They are going to your place, I’ll be there before them.

20 minutes later a car arrived. The windows were tinted and it was hard to see what was inside.

-Kyle promise me you won’t freak out, okay?

-Claire why would I?

-Just stay calm, everything it’s going to be fine.

-Claire…what’s going on?.

Then a door of the co-pilot opened. I was hoping to see Eleonor but instead, her brother stepped out. He looked at me with a disapproving face.

-Claire, what is this? Is Eleonor in that car or not?

But her brother opened the back door, I couldn’t see what he was doing but then I saw Eleonor in his arms. She was unconscious. Her friend, Sophie I think it's her name, came out of the car too.

-She fainted this afternoon – she started to explain - They gave her an IV drip. She is stable for now but will continue to need medical attention and be close to you. That is what they told us in the hospital.

Her brother came closer to me and gave me Eleonor, who I carefully held in my arms.

-I’ll keep her safe – I said – Thank you.

-You better – said her brother.

-You can stay as long as you want – Claire said.

-We can’t. Alpha is coming back from his honeymoon and we need to tell him everything that happened.

-I see. I’ll go inside and call a doctor. Once more don’t worry about her.

-Please, call when she wakes up. – Sophie said.

-We will- answered Claire.

I went in and I put her on my bed. She was really pale. I touched her cheek and put a hand on hers rubbing it carefully. And then I saw the mark on her neck.

I couldn’t help but have a mix of feelings. On one hand, I was truly sorry, that is when everything started to go wrong. If I had only waited or asked if she agreed. But on the other hand, I’m happy that she is mine. A strong she-wolf, with temper, dominant… And she is mine and everyone can see and smell she is mine.

-The doctor is here Kyle- Claire was standing next to the door with the doctor.

-Please doctor come in.

-Thank you Alpha.

The doctor came in and she started to check Eleonor. The first thing she did was check her heartbeat.

-Hmm, it’s a little bit weak. – and then she started to check the mark on her neck - pretty deep Alpha.

-Thanks?

-I guess she hasn’t marked you.

-No, she didn’t. Would that fix it?

-Probably, but now we need to check on her vitals. If she has stayed a longer time away from you she could have died Alpha…

-What?!

-They mentioned she could barely eat and sleep.

-She is probably dehydrated. I'm going to do some analytics and tests. I want to know exactly what is her physical situation. In the meantime, I'll give her an IV drip. And she will need to be as close to you as possible. Sleep in the same bed so she passively smells you. Leave your scent near her and make her hear your voice passively while she is unconscious.

-When she will wake up?

-I can’t tell, depends on how strong is your bond. Did you spend too much time together?

-Not really…

-Well, use this time to make it stronger. Even if she is sleeping the bond isn’t.

-Yes doctor.

she proceeded to take blood samples – I will take this to the lab and call you with the results.

-Thank you, doctor.

-it’s okay ALPHA, It’s my job. I’m glad to help our future Luna.

The doctor left, and it was Claire, Ely, and me. I took off my T-shirt and laid down next to Eleonor.

-This is what I was scared of…

I know Kyle, but she will be fine.

-You heard what the doctor said, she almost died. Does she prefer to die than to be with me?

-I don’t think so Kyle. If She is this ill so soon it’s because your bond is strong. At the end of the day, you are an Alpha, and she is a Luna.

-She is not, not yet.

-Then why she didn’t pick up the phone? Why did she have to go this far?

-I don’t know Kyle, ask her that when she wakes up. I’ll call Josh to let him know. And I’ll order some food too.

Eleanor

I hadn't opened my eyes yet but I could feel as if a truck had run over my body. But I could smell something too, it was a nice scent. What is that? It makes me feel at home. I slowly opened my eyes and looked at the ceiling. Where am I? What happened? I was in the forest and…oh my god I passed out! I heard a voice, a familiar one is that…Kyle?

I looked at him. He was sitting in front of a laptop. It looked like he was in a meeting. He was wearing a white shirt. S*it, he is hot. I cleared my throat, my mouth was dry, and I made a great effort to sit up. At that moment Kyle looked at me.

-I’m sorry you need to continue the meeting without me. Thank you for your time – And after that, he closed the laptop. – Eleonor, carefully. Are you okay?

Kyle sat next to me on the bed and put a hand on top if one of my legs.

-Ely…

-I’m okay. I guess. It’s just that my body feels weird. Where am I?

- You are in my room.

Sorry? Did I hear properly? AM I ON HIS BED? What happened?

-You fainted, your life was in danger. Your brother brought you here. You could have died Eleonor. The doctors said the best was for you to stay closer to me.

-Your vitals were really low. You spent too much time away from me. It was the only option. I’m sure he wasn’t happy about that.

-But couples can stay away from each other and they are fine.

-Yeah but we are not a couple, not properly. If you had marked me it would have been different.

-I see…how long have I been asleep?

-4 days

-What? Oh my god, the pack! I need to call the alpha and let him know – I started to get out of the bed I felt dizzy and lost balance. Kyle held me quickly with his arms.

-Parker knows, he went back the day you arrived.

-He is going to kill me – I said sitting back on the bed.

-No, he is not. He was worried about you too. But what I don’t understand is why Liam could have stayed in charge.

-Because I suspended him as omega.

-Oh! I see… I’ll call a doctor to come and check how you are doing.

-Okay, thank you.

-Ely

-Yes? – I said looking at him in the eyes.

-Doesn’t matter- he stood up and grab his phone.

-No, tell me.

-Why didn’t you pick up the phone?

- I was busy, really busy. And I guessed you wanted answers and I didn’t have them. I still don’t.

-I only wanted to know if you were okay. Ely your brother.

-I know, he wanted to kill you.

-Yes, well of course he wasn’t going to be able to. But what you need to know is that I wasn’t going to kill him.

I went quiet. I didn’t know what to say.

-I…- I took a deep breath and looked at the floor -I just saw the only family I have held by the neck by the man who marked me the day before.

- I was showing my authority. I'm sorry you had to see it.

I just nodded

-Did you experience any pain while I was away?

-No.

-I see…

-Here – Kyle tossed me my phone – call them to let them know you are okay. I will call the doctor.

20  minutes later the doctor came in.

-Good morning doctor

-Good morning Eleanor.

- I will be in the hallway if you need anything – I said before leaving them alone in my room. They stayed there for what felt like an eternity.

-Alpha, come in please. – said the doctor.

-Yes – I came in and I immediately looked at Ely. She looks sad. She kept her gaze at me for a few seconds but then she turned to look at the doctor.

-Well, the good news it’s that she has recovered pretty well, I don’t think medicine it’s necessary unless she is in pain. It would be good if you two can stay close to each other till she physically recovers. Her muscles are weak so short walks every day will help her too. Follow a nice diet. Avoid stressful situations…

-And the bad news? – I asked. The doctor looked at Eleonor.

- He needs to know dear. – The doctor.

-I...- her voice broke- I can’t feel my wolf part. I can’t transform myself into a wolf.
