There’s something I find weird. Or eerie. I don’t know how I can describe it. The new girl attracts a lot of attention. The news about the new girl is spread around the whole school. Within days almost every person knows her. Her desk-mate (Shannon) is a unpopular girl whom lots of people stay away from. It’s rumoured she has head lice. No one wants to sit next to her and her 2 friends don’t share the same table. It’s pretty much the only spare seat in the class. Miranda hesitates but sits next to her anyway. Shannon strikes up a conversation immediately. “Hi!!! Do you want to play with me at lunch?” Miranda doesn’t reply for a few seconds. Then she mumbles ok. During lessons Miranda strikes up her hand for most questions and gets them right. “Dang it.” I think. “There’s a know-it-all person…”. She’s even reading the teacher’s novels (offered to her) and flies through it. Then a drama scene strikes up. She’s called to the teacher with Shannon. I inch closer to hear. “Why does Shannon have no lunch?” The teacher asks. Miranda remains silent. She looks to Shannon before saying-“I ate it. With her. She bring it out to play and invited her other friend and I to eat it.” I think she must be referring to Paige, but since she was knew she obviously didn’t remember. “Which friend?” Asks the teacher. Miranda points at Paige. Paige is summoned and I don’t know what happens after as I need to move my butt. I never saw Miranda hanging out with Shannon again. And it went on like that for who knows how long. Miranda hung out with different people and played on the playground. I didn’t speak to her much. But for some reason when I look where I am not looking, I see her right away.
