Days passed.
Damian and Serena remained under the same roof, but something between them had changed.
They still argued.
They still disagreed.
But the anger wasn’t the same anymore.
One evening, Serena walked into Damian’s office.
He was asleep at his desk.
Documents were scattered everywhere.
His tie was loose, and his head rested against the chair.
Serena stared at him.
She had never seen him look so vulnerable.
She quietly picked up a blanket and placed it over his shoulders.
Damian opened his eyes.
“You’re awake.”
Serena jumped.
“I thought you were asleep.”
“I was.”
“Then why did you wake up?”
“Because you were standing over me.”
She rolled her eyes.
“I was giving you a blanket.”
“Why?”
“Because you’re going to get sick sleeping here.”
Damian looked at her.
“Thank you.”
Serena froze.
That was the first time she had ever heard him say those words to her.
“You’re welcome.”
She turned to leave.
“Serena.”
She stopped.
“Hmm?”
“I know this marriage wasn’t what you wanted.”
She looked back.
“Neither was it what you wanted.”
Damian didn’t respond.
Serena walked away.
Neither noticed how long Damian watched her.
⸻
The next morning, Serena received a call.
She almost didn’t answer.
Then she saw the name.
Ethan.
She hesitated before picking up.
“What do you want?”
“I want to talk.”
“We have nothing to talk about.”
“I made a mistake.”
“You betrayed me.”
“I know.”
“You embarrassed me in front of everyone.”
“I was wrong.”
Serena laughed bitterly.
“And now you want me back?”
“Yes.”
She went silent.
Ethan continued.
“Serena, Damian doesn’t love you.”
Her expression hardened.
“You don’t know anything about my marriage.”
“I know men like him.”
“You don’t know Damian.”
“He married you for business.”
Serena’s heart tightened.
Ethan continued.
“You’ll regret staying with him.”
Before she could answer, another voice came from behind her.
“Is there a problem?”
Serena turned.
Damian stood in the doorway.
Ethan was still on the phone.
“Who is that?” Damian asked.
Serena ended the call.
“No one.”
Damian’s eyes narrowed.
“Was it Ethan?”
She didn’t answer.
He walked closer.
“Why is he calling you?”
“It’s none of your business.”
Damian’s expression darkened.
“You’re my wife.”
“According to a contract.”
Silence.
Serena walked past him.
But Damian remained standing there.
For the first time, he realized something he didn’t want to admit.
He was jealous.
