"This mask doesn’t look special. It looks like something cheap from the street."
Li Ning looked at the mask closely. He could not tell what it was made of. The mask had no expression. It just had three simple holes.
"They say this mask can make you look like someone else. Do you want to try it?"
Li Ning put on the mask. Nothing happened.
"How do I look? Did I change?"
Rao Tian did not say anything. He took the mask and put it on himself. Suddenly, he looked like a sunny and handsome young man.
"How about now?"
Rao Tian spoke in Xia Feng’s voice.
"Yes, you look like Xia Feng. But the smell is wrong. He smells nicer," Li Ning said.
Li Ning checked the “Xia Feng” in front of him.
"You are 1.75 meters tall. He is 1.83 meters tall."
Li Ning reached out to touch “Xia Feng’s” hair. His hand went through it like it wasn’t there.
"You didn’t really turn into Xia Feng?"
He touched “Xia Feng’s” forehead. His hand passed through again. This time, it felt like touching Rao Tian’s head.
The mask fell to the ground with a plop.
"This mask only changes how you look. It tricks the eyes. If someone touches you, it stops working," Rao Tian said.
"Let’s test it more," Rao Tian said.
They tried again. They found out that only touch could break the disguise.
Rao Tian put the mask on Li Ning. This time, Li Ning looked like Lu Shan.
"It’s just as I thought," Rao Tian said as he took the mask off.
"Who did you make me look like?" Li Ning asked.
"No one important. Just a handsome guy," Rao Tian said.
...
"By the way, Xia Feng and the others want to play Werewolf tonight," Rao Tian said. "Do you want to join?"
"Do they have enough players?" Li Ning asked. "I want to be the game master. If I get the werewolf card again, I won’t be able to speak properly."
"I understand," Rao Tian said.
...
At 6 p.m., Li Ning and Rao Tian left together.
They passed through the garden square. They saw the Lu siblings there.
Each one held a candied hawthorn stick. They were sitting on a bench.
"Hey, Rao Tian, where are you going?" Lu Shan asked.
"We’re going to play Werewolf with friends," Rao Tian replied.
Rao Tian felt uneasy near Lu Shan. His stomach turned. It felt like the wolf inside him wanted to run away.
"Really? I love that game," Lu Xian said. "It’s fun to find the wolves hiding in the group."
Lu Xian struck a pose. She looked determined.
"Why not join us?" Li Ning asked. He smiled. "The more players, the better."
"Babysitting your sister, Lu Shan?"
Li Ran walked over with her best friend.
"Why is everyone here?" Li Ran asked.
Li Bo came out of the public restroom nearby. He pushed up his glasses.
"What a coincidence. You’re all here," Li Bo said. "Sister Li, didn’t you just leave the hospital? Are you okay now?"
"I’m fine," Li Ran said. "I still need rest, but I’m recovering."
Li Ran patted Lu Xian’s head.
"Want to join us for Werewolf?"
"Sure. Let’s play," Li Ran said.
It seemed everyone liked Werewolf.
"Li, no work tonight?" Lu Shan asked.
"Being a commander isn’t easy," Li Bo said. "I’m here to relax. Why?"
"But you, Lu Shan," Li Bo said. "Don’t you have work tomorrow? Why are you playing Werewolf?"
"The task is tomorrow," Lu Shan said. "Playing Werewolf is good practice."
"Li Ning, where are we playing?" Rao Tian asked.
"Wang Jie’s dessert shop," Li Ning said. "She saved a private room for us."
The group walked to the shop.
Upstairs, Xia Feng, Cao Bo, Liu Xiao, and Yang You were already there.
There were enough people now for a full game.
As they sat down, Hu Jia came in. He brought a girl with him.
It was Zhang Yan.
"Hu Jia, why did you bring Zhang Yan?" Xia Feng asked. "Wasn’t she missing for a month? Where did you find her?"
"I ran into her on the way," Hu Jia said. "She explained everything.
"She loves Werewolf. She looked sad, so I brought her.
"She didn’t do anything wrong. Why do you judge her?"
"If they don’t like me, I’ll leave," Zhang Yan said. She looked down at the floor. She looked hurt.
She glanced at Rao Tian. She remembered him as quiet and unsure.
But now, she felt afraid. She did not know why.
Rao Tian noticed her gaze. He looked back at her.
Suddenly, Zhang Yan’s leg hurt.
"You monster!" she yelled.
She realized why she felt scared.
She immediately regretted yelling.
"First you act innocent. Then you yell. What a show," Li Ran said.
"No, I didn’t mean it," Zhang Yan said.
At that moment, Wang Jie entered with a cart.
"Let’s not fight," Wang Jie said. "It’s just a game.
"If you don’t like Zhang Yan, take her out in the game. Poison her if you want.
"And here’s some dessert. Help yourselves. It’s on me."
Zhang Yan still felt pain in her leg. She didn’t dare accuse Rao Tian.
Rao Tian knew this. He stayed calm.
Even though Zhang Yan wanted to leave, she stayed.
