“Zeke!” Hunter yelled. Before stepping through the door, he had tried summoning the otter from inside his implant, to no effect. Before he could call again, the passing crowd grew thicker and forced him to move, practically lifting him off his feet as they rushed past. On his right, a chunk of rock made of white crystal stood embedded in the ground. Hunter made a grab for it, then pulled himself up and hunched above the crowd’s eye level, out of the current. Now he could see the landscape clearly—the grass stretched on endlessly into the distance, with hundreds of crystal towers spread among them.
