“Jenfri,” the man said, turning to the boy. “I told you not to summon me.”
“You’re both human,” Hunter blurted out. “How did you get here? I thought it wasn’t allowed.”
The man scrunched his furry brow and frowned. Jenfri smiled and tugged on his robe.
“He thinks we’re Externals, Omoro. He doesn’t know we’re Ints. Isn’t that strange?”
“Quiet,” Omoro said. Then, to Hunter, “This is not your place, boy. Very interesting.”
Hunter felt the chill again, a slight hint of malice.
“That’s not all,” Jenfri put in. “He said that an invasion is imminent.”
Omoro snapped his head toward Jenfri, teeth bared. “He told you that?”
“Yes. Is it true? Why did you not pass on such information?”
“It’s none of your concern. There is a shift in the underlayer. Do not become involved.”
