“This is where she lived and worked.” Árpád motioned for Lillianna to follow him closer to where the chapel still stood. “King Bela vowed to God that his daughter Margaret would be given to the work of God if Hungary was freed from external occupiers. King Bela’s request came true, needless to say. Subsequently, Margaret would be sent to live here on this island in the middle of the Danube in a convent at a very young age.”
“That must have been a terrible shock to her.”
“Well, Margaret, from what we know, ended up working tirelessly to help those who were suffering, even though she was a princess and would die in 1271.” Árpád paused, lost in thought. “It is said by some that her endless work was a factor in the lead up to her death.”
