Chapter 5

1831 Words
The hall suddenly filled with a mist, gradually thickening and refracting into beautiful and colorful lights. Underneath each person standing, a milky-white halo appeared, projecting a light curtain around them. This peculiar change immediately caught the attention of almost everyone present. However, Angelina didn't pay much attention to these effects; her gaze was fixed on the large circular platform in front of her, separated by the light curtain. She didn't miss the entrance of the court magician, shrouded in a specially made magic robe. Such an appearance was a basic spatial magic technique. The specially made black magic robe almost resembled Angelina's memory from five years ago. However, in the childhood memories of black-robed magicians, all faces were blurry. This time, Angelina clearly saw the face of the court magician – a young man with a handsome face exuding an aura of aloofness, silver-white hair, and light gray eyes devoid of discernible emotions. After a few seconds of eye contact, even without a direct gaze, Angelina involuntarily averted her eyes. Angelina could feel the almost imperceptible pressure emanating from the magician, making her uncomfortable. She shifted her gaze to the girl beside him, who was holding the hem of his black robe. With golden hair shining like the sun, and a pair of unique eyes, along with features crafted as if by a divine sculptor, the girl looked both sacred and mysterious. Like everyone else in the hall, Angelina's gaze focused on this girl. In her memories at the age of five, Maria had eyes resembling sapphires. Five years later, Maria's eyes had transformed into heterochromatic blue and green. Jack, by Angelina's side, appeared very excited. He broke through the light curtain surrounding him, approached Angelina, and grabbed her wrist, exclaiming, "Oh... This is the goddess I told you about!" Jack pinched Angelina's wrist a bit too hard, and a string of praises flowed from his mouth, completely showing a look of being overwhelmed by Maria's beauty. Annoyed, Angelina rescued her hand, pushing Jack back to his original position that he invaded by squeezing into her light curtain. Due to Jack's antics, Angelina became more alert and shifted her gaze from Maria's eyes to the black gemstone brooch she carefully compared and replaced on her chest before leaving. In this occasion centered around Maria, she couldn't stand out based on appearance and attire. Feeling a bit frustrated, Angelina silently observed the milky-white light curtains enveloping everyone, and to distract herself, started speculating wildly about this mysterious phenomenon accompanying their entrance. Could these light curtains, appearing around everyone with various whimsical effects after the spatial magic of their arrival, be just a basic light magic used to set the atmosphere? Unable to draw a conclusion, but with various thoughts swirling in her mind, Angelina's uncomfortable feelings were somewhat alleviated. The magical ceremony held by the church today didn't have anything particularly special, lacking the meaningful lectures given by adventurers. With full expectations, Angelina didn't even get a simple self-introduction from the court magician. The level-eight grand magician stood silently on one side of the circular platform, showing no emotions. Maria, a magical apprentice, began the opening greetings. The pure and elegant girl, using graceful and noble court etiquette, thanked every attendee. Her self-introduction was modest, not particularly emphasizing her noble status, only mentioning that she was a fortunate little magical apprentice recognized by the court magician. After a simple exchange, the event's opening was Maria demonstrating the application and transformation of magic from all five elements. Being a magical apprentice proficient in all five elements was a rare identity. Although Maria was currently just a magical apprentice, everyone's attention was captivated by the beautiful title of Maria, the magical apprentice of the five elements, appreciating her still immature basic magic. After watching for a while, Angelina began uncomfortably fidgeting with her brooch. Maria's magic was gorgeous but impractical, offering Angelina no information or techniques that were as tangible as those found in magical books. While everyone was captivated by Maria's beautiful demonstration of the five-element magic, the somewhat bored Angelina quietly shifted her gaze to the silver-haired, gray-eyed young man. Her mind raced through the plot of that dream-like novel featuring the main female lead, and the magical mentor of Maria in that dream was named... David. Angelina focused on the silent and intentionally low-profile grand magician, trying to recall any details she could remember. After Maria obtained the "Odyssey Magic Notebook," Grand Magician David was dispatched by the palace to investigate the activity traces of a dragon beyond the Ude Mountains outside the Esco Empire. Since then, he had disappeared without a trace. Subsequently, Maria's family hired a second family magic tutor, a hidden identity adventurer who was a nature elf, just before Maria entered the East Academy. The grand magician, Moyue, seemed uninterested in the activities at the small church, his vacant gaze not fixed on anything specific. Angelina observed him closely and could only deduce that most of his attention was directed upward, above the church. Ignoring Maria's impressive display of basic magic on the grand platform, Angelina, following her conclusion, shifted her gaze upwards. The church hall was covered by a translucent, lustrous dome crafted from magical stones, with a carved silhouette of a figure holding a magic staff on its surface. The staff's massive magic stone conveniently concealed the face of the figure, an image representing the creation god worshipped by the Empire. The enveloping milky-white light screens were not completely sealed; there was an uncovered section above. Looking through her own light screen, Angelina could sense that her vision was being filtered by something. Before Maria's magic demonstration, she briefly explained these milky-white light screens. They were a simple blessing spell approved for use by the church after Maria's special request—a modified version of the light magic commonly used by priests for personal blessings. Bathed in holy light, the spell provided a buff for luck and health. Maria didn't delve into the specific conditions for casting this extensive blessing spell, mentioning only that she obtained the right to use the church's special magic item. By infusing a certain amount of magical power into the special magic item, one could trigger this large-scale blessing spell, and the duration depended on the amount of magical power. Looking at it this way, it seemed Maria had stored a considerable amount of magical power in advance, allowing her to effortlessly showcase her five-element magic today, emphasizing once again the difference between magical talents and ordinary individuals. Angelina didn't want to delve too deeply into the complexities of the world. Her sole purpose now was to capture the attention of the court magician present and seize an opportunity to undergo magical detection once again. Before visiting the church today, besides dressing herself meticulously, Angelina, after regaining her consciousness, attempted to recall the additional cultivation experiences from her memories. She easily restored the methods of internal meridian and sea of consciousness visualization. After a thorough self-examination based on her memory, Angelina couldn't decide whether to feel frustrated or relieved. She discovered that she still perfectly retained her previous life's trashy five-element spiritual root constitution. In her sea of consciousness, Angelina saw the small, withered seed of spiritual roots, currently in a state of dormancy and on the verge of fading away. Fortunately, Angelina's past life was just a cultivator who relied on unconventional methods and a broad range of books to reach the foundation-building stage. After discovering that some skills of the previous cultivation system could still be practiced in this world devoid of even a hint of spiritual energy, Angelina finally breathed a sigh of relief. The divine art she diligently practiced, as well as the body refining techniques she compiled from hidden martial arts manuals in the past, now had the possibility of sustained development. Combining her past life's experience with the knowledge gained from reading introductory magical books in this life, Angelina believed that the world's magical system could be harmonized with the cultivation system from her past life. She possessed spiritual roots, but this world lacked spiritual energy and was instead filled with various magical elements. Perhaps, by coming into contact with a magical affinity stone again, she could find a way to substitute magical elements for spiritual energy. Angelina couldn't accurately gauge the grand magician's mood, but it was evident that her current attire didn't catch his attention. His thoughts were clearly drifting upwards. Even if Angelina had dressed up carefully today and had the advantage of her superior appearance among the children, she couldn't be compared to the day's guest, Maria. After all, this was the only church in this remote town, and the teaching event couldn't be limited to just the demonstration by the magical apprentices. This was an opportunity for the church to showcase its prestige. Therefore, the church generously approved the use of a special magic item that could cast a large-scale blessing spell to enhance the atmosphere. However, the most important part was the magical demonstration by the court magician and a brief Q&A session. Angelina refocused her attention on the ongoing demonstration of earth magic on the circular platform. According to the order of the five elements, this should be the last demonstration. Maria, standing on the platform, chanted a low spell, and dust rose from the platform, faintly revealing some condensed particles. The dusty haze almost engulfed half of Maria's body but didn't stick to her specially crafted magic robe. Angelina found it uninteresting. She carefully listened to the spell Maria chanted, which sounded like a beautiful melody. However, based on Angelina's study of basic magical books, this entry-level "Earth Calling Spell" deliberately omitted a few crucial syllables—a common flaw among most magicians, hiding their true capabilities. Furthermore, this level of magic was comparable to the "Land Drop" spell Angelina performed during her previous life's nascent soul stage. With that in mind, she was now in the same league as the celestial-protected protagonist, Maria. Thinking of this, Angelina couldn't help but proudly raise the corners of her mouth. In a momentary distraction, Angelina's wrist was once again caught by Jack beside her. "Lily! The magician's robe is really something. With it, you don't have to worry about getting your clothes dirty." Hmph. With sixteen more years of experience gained overnight, the knowledgeable Angelina calmly pushed away the hand of this childish companion. Anyone detected with magical talent could receive a magician's robe, a gift from the Magician's Association, engraved with simple cleansing and defensive magic arrays. Angelina didn't find it particularly valuable. In her locked space, there were even precious robes left by her mother, Fiona, who was a level six mage... although, for now, she couldn't retrieve them due to her locked bloodline. "In the future, when I become a magician, I can give you a few if you want," Angelina said, raising her head slightly and making a promise with a hint of pride.
