9 Abelardus, stripped of his armor and weapons, sat with his ankles and wrists bound, tied to a wooden wagon wheel and facing the campfires of his captors. His men had survived, though some of them were injured. All of them were stripped of their armor and weapons and spread throughout the nomad’s camp, bound and tied to trees and wagons, far enough away from each other so that they could not speak. The two he could still see were positioned so their backs faced him, robbing them of the ability to signal to each other or read each other’s expressions.
