CHAPTER 2: TURBULENT CLASHES

AVA I smirked, brushing the dust off my jeans as I surveyed the mess. That arrogant i***t was going to pay—oh, he was going to pay. Every parcel I was supposed to deliver lay crushed on the ground, a casualty of his reckless driving. And he would learn quickly: crossing me came with a price. Luckily I found a nail as I began to puncture his tyres till all four went flat. "What the hell are you doing?" I barely had time to turn before his voice boomed behind me. There he was, towering and infuriatingly handsome, eyes blazing with anger and disbelief. "What does it look like?" I shot back, unfazed by his glare. "Arrogant huh!! I know how to deal with people like you!!" I screamed as I made to hit his glass window. "Stop this madness and tell me what you want?" He said, throwing his hands in the air frustratingly. I stood, my hands placed on my hips, a smug smile playing on my lips as I leaned on his critically damaged car. “Seems you’re the arrogant type who can’t apologize. So pay me for the goods, or you won’t leave.” He gritted his teeth, pointing at the four ruined tires. “Hell no! My car’s destroyed! Do you know how expensive this is?” “You almost ran me over! I could have died!” I snapped, ignoring the threat of his towering frame. “Yet all you care about is your car?” Typical rich bastard. Selfish. Self-absorbed. And yet… His eyes flickered downward, and for a split second, I realized why he’d gone quiet. My shirt–two buttons undone, cleavage teasing the air—had caught his attention. “Pervert!” I spun, fumbling to button up, cheeks burning. He smirked, hands in his pockets like a predator sizing me up. “Not only are you arrogant, but…cute when annoyed.” I scowled, pushing past the strange flutter in my chest. “So now you’re flirting?!” “Are you paying for the goods or not?” I demanded, folding my arms across my chest, daring him to argue. I couldn't deny the fact that he looked dangerously handsome and his body physique was athletic and muscular but I wasn't going to drool on that amidst this crisis. Besides, he looked like a pervert…a stupid, disgusting one. I thought, my face scrunched in utter disgust. Sighing, I leaned over, grabbed his wallet from the driver’s seat, and counted out the cash. His jaw clenched as I handed it back, a silent battle of wills. I mounted my power bike, adjusted my helmet, and revved the engine. “And my car?” he called out. “Not my problem,” I shot back. “You’re rich. Buy another one.” I sped off, leaving him fuming in my rearview mirror. By the time I returned to the agency, my heart was still hammering, but duty called. Items had to be delivered, or I’d face angry customers—and worse, Mrs. Kim. "Customers are always right." Our supervisor, Mrs Kim said, scolding a colleague of mine. "He almost harassed me sexually, I had to defend myself." Ria– a colleague said, trying to defend herself. "Nothing you say can justify your actions. You're fired!!" Mrs Kim yelled as Ria immediately fell to her knees, her hands clasped as she began to plead. I furrowed my brows in confusion not understanding the whole issue. "What's going on?" I asked a girl beside me. "She went to deliver and a man almost had his way with her but she gave him a powerful kick in his balls." Cassie explained and I nodded, understanding the situation. But this wasn't her fault, she was just trying to defend herself. Should she have let him rape her? Confusion and anger was etched on everyone's faces but no one could dare voice out a word, Mrs Kim was our superior and she had every right to fire her. But this wasn't the right thing to do!! "You're fired, hand over your T shirt and ID." Mrs Kim said ignoring her pleadings. She glanced around and when her eyes met with mine, she narrowed her gaze. Holy s**t!! I shouldn't have let her see me!! "What are you still doing here? Aren't you on your working shift?" She asked as she began walking towards me, her heels making click sounds, matching the pace of my heartbeat. "I had some challenges and I had to return but I will be on my way now ma'am." I said, rushing my words as I made to leave. She pulled me back by the collar. "Not so fast!!" She muttered. "Now listen up everyone..." She ordered coldly and I eyed her secretly. Such guts!! "I won't condone any nonchalant attitude. If any customer makes any complaints either about late delivery or physical harassment, you're going to get fired at once. No amount of pleadings would make me take you back. Do I make myself clear?" She asked and we all mumbled a “yes ma'am”. "I said…do I make myself clear??" She asked again and we yelled a response. "Good." She said, flinging her hair backwards with attitude as she sashayed back to me. "And as for you, Ava.” She began, her voice low and lethal. “Your delivery is going to be late and I'm sure customers will leave a bad review because of that… so your sack letter awaits you." She mutters as she smirked mischievously. "I would make it on time ma'am." I promised and she let out a witchy laugh. "Let's see about that." She said, Her bossy character pissed me off but I was helpless, I couldn't afford to lose my job when I had heavy debts to settle. That thought humbled me. Back on my bike, I pushed off the agency grounds at full speed. Every second counted; deliveries had to be made. And yet, every thought of that arrogant man—his smirk, his gaze—made my pulse race. I began delivering the items and I was lucky enough to be sympathised with because I told them I almost got into an accident. I reached the final delivery point: a sprawling mansion that screamed luxury. I pressed the doorbell, rehearsing my apology. “I’m sorry for the delay…an arrogant dummy—” The words died in my throat. Standing there, smirking with arms crossed, was him. The same i***t who’d almost run me over, the same man whose tyres I’d flattened. Our eyes met. Sparks—or was it fire?—ignited instantly. I tried to steady myself, but my pulse betrayed me. This wasn’t over.
