" mom you can't go, they will take me," I sprang for her hand. I knew the moment they came I would be blamed for something I did not do.
"You have to calm down and let me handle it , ok"
That was when the door was knocked again but this time it was the door to my room. Fear pulsated through every fibre of my being. I knew henceforth that nothing would ever be the same.
Mom opened the door and our butler stepped inside announcing the arrival of three cops who were here for me.
" mom, you have to believe me. I did not kill anyone, she is still alive and tormenting me. They bare targeting our family"
At this point I was nothing but a rollercoaster of emotions. I was a mess.
Mom placed a reassuring hand on my shoulder promising me that she would handle it and that nobody was going to jail . Her words did little to comfort me. This was bigger than all of us.
They both stepped out to go meet the cops whispering silently. I could tell that mom was also scared, she was only trying to be strong for the both of us.
Just then , my phone rang, it was Miranda. I knew she was worried since she was expecting me at the party. I was in no mood for talking. I switched my phone off and tossed it inside the aside .
Something was definitely going on, they were taking a lot of time downstairs. I had to find out what was going on.
I quickly got off my bed and tip toed cautiously downstairs, I needed to know what they were talking about, after all it did involve me.
" Mrs Darrell , you know very well that we are always on your side, we've proven that countless of times. If it was just anyone , we could've made the case disappear like it wasn't even there in the first place. But ...."
One of the cops who I immediately recognized since I had seen him here multiple of times handling different cases for my dad said.
" But what? say it!!" mom was losing her cool, even more so than I dared to admit, which was very...I want to say rare but it was never. She never lost her cool even when our company was in danger of losing hundreds of millions . This only meant one thing , things were very f****d up.
" I am afraid that the family you've offended is much more powerful, even than yours if I might add. He killed the only child of the head of the family, I am afraid he is out for your blood, all of you and there is nothing we can do to help."
the cop said.
" Don't I pay you f*****g enough money than the what your shitty department is giving you and for what? this? Get the f*****g out of my house!"
mom had never lost her s**t like this, things were definitely bad.
" But Mrs..." the cop tried again but was cut off.
" I said get the hell out of my house!" she shouted as them. Anders , our butler started acting by showing them out.
" They will be coming for him and I don't think you can save him this time," the cop said one last time as he motioned for his other two fellows to follow him out.
After they were gone my mom motioned for Anders.
" I can't let them take them take him away. We have to be cunning this time if we have to win."
she said to him.
"I agree with you Mrs Darrell, I might have an idea on how we can manipulate the court since that is the way I see him fighting . If he goes through the backdoor I am afraid we will have to play dirty."
mom nodded signalling him to continue .
" you saw how mentally shaken he was , to the point he claims that the lady in question is still alive and haunting him in his dreams. We can use that to our advantage. Say he has a mental problem, the court will not rule him unstable hence we will arrange a comfortable psychiatric hospital for him for some time while we fight the battle with our enemy. That's the most suitable way to get the court to our side for now."
" Good job , please arrange that for me before the cops return."
After hearing that ,two things were clear , my mom was at her ending point and the chances of winning would be next to none. And I was on my own since nobody would believe me that these were forces we could not fight. The girl was alive, that I was sure. I only needed to prove that. I quickly ran to my room, the fear in me dissipating and being replaced by my urge to prove myself.
