Avalon's POV The vampire compound came into view just as the first hints of dawn touched the horizon, and my wolf stuttered mid-stride at what we found. Where there should have been towering stone walls and iron gates, there was rubble. Smoke still rose from the wreckage in thin, grey columns that twisted toward the sky like dying serpents. I shifted back to human form, my brothers doing the same on either side of me. For a long moment, none of us spoke. We just stared at the devastation. "God," Zane breathed finally.
