The mist that had covered her eyes the moment she stared at Lucas, his words still ringing in her head, suddenly disappeared, and they appeared in a room. A magnificent one at that. The kind reserved only for the powerful. Her eyes landed on the gold, pure gold, worth billions in the human world. Enough to make one a billionaire. The oversized bed dominated the room, grand and intimidating. Cupboards lined with gold. A towering mirror standing proudly. Her eyes ran around the room in disbelief. Then Lucas appeared behind her. Isabella didn’t turn when she asked, “Where am I?” Lucas moved forward until he stood in front of her. “My room,” he replied calmly. “Isn’t it funny how you’re the first human to be in here? The first human I’ve spoken to for two days… without harming.” “Why?” Isabella asked, her voice tight with anger. “Why am I the first? What’s stopping you? You can do whatever you want… you’re superior to me after all.” I looked at her for a second and smirked. “Oh, I would. And I would cherish the moment I do,” I said, turning my back to her. But inwardly, I knew I couldn’t. I couldn’t hurt her. Then I allowed myself to eavesdrop on the meeting while standing with her in the room. “What’s going on?” “He actually fed a human?” “That is the most disturbing news I have ever heard.” The meeting had stalled. They were still discussing me… and the human I had ordered them not to harm. Then my senses shifted to the corridors. A visitor was coming soon. I turned and watched Isabella walk toward the mirror. She stared at herself for a few seconds, her eyes gliding over her face. She looked at herself, but there was something withdrawn in her expression. Her hair cascaded over her shoulders. Then her gaze shifted to the bones used to design the outstanding mirror. She didn’t realize when her hand stretched forward, touching one of the skulls. “Funny… how I could be used as one of these someday,” she muttered. I heard her clearly. I walked closer to where she stood and slowly placed my hands on her shoulders. She flinched. She hadn’t expected that. “As long as I don’t command so… I hold your life at the tip of my fingers,” I said quietly. Isabella raised her head and looked at me through the mirror. “But I wouldn’t say anything for now… as long as you follow my rules.” My deep voice brushed her ear. She quickly freed herself from my grip, distancing herself. “I don’t want you close to me. Ever,” she said. I smirked. “You have no choice.” “You killed my family,” Isabella cried, tears spilling down her cheeks. Her throat tightened painfully. “My mum… my dad… my neighbors… my sister!” she cried. “I hate you more than I ever imagined. I don’t think this hate would ever go away.” I paused, watching her. “My men killed your family. I didn’t lift my hand against any soul,” I corrected calmly. “While you’re at it, lower your voice. Especially when you’re a human in the midst of vampires. You aren’t safe.” I continued bluntly. “Wipe your tears. The deed is already done. You don’t have to like me. Humans never like vampires… neither do vampires like humans. You have our food in you. You can’t blame us for hunting.” Then a knock came at the door. Both of them turned. Lucas had been expecting the visitor. Without thinking, fear overtook Isabella, and she rushed behind Lucas, hiding behind him. “Juke. I will be at the meeting soon,” Lucas called. “Yes, my lord. But to inform you… we are still in search of the human girl,” Juke replied before walking away. Lucas turned to Isabella. “You… you’re their king?” she asked, her voice trembling. “Yes,” I replied. “After making myself one… securing powers to myself… I am the most powerful vampire king to ever live.” Isabella stepped back slowly. “They only listen to your commands… you’re their king… and the reason my family died.” Her voice shook. Her head spun. She couldn’t believe she stood before the ruthless king rumored in her village, the king with a heart of stone. “I didn’t kill your family,” I repeated simply. “I would leave you here for the meeting. Stay comfortable. You don’t have to worry, the doors will be locked by my powers. You wouldn’t be able to step out.” “I will see you soon.” I turned toward the door. Then, A loud clatter echoed. I turned sharply. Isabella had thrown down my Bloodstone Chalice, an ancient goblet carved from obsidian and embedded with glowing crimson stones, filled moments ago with royal blood. It shattered across the floor. A priceless relic. A possession of a mighty vampire king. I looked down at the broken pieces… then slowly lifted my gaze to her face. She was hurt. She did it on purpose. “You killed my family!” she screamed, her chest heaving. She didn’t know whether to fear what she’d done… or feel proud. One of my brows lifted. “Your voice is loud… and my precious Bloodstone Chalice… worth more than your life… you broke.” “I hate you,” she said, her voice breaking. I swallowed, forcing myself to remain calm. Then I spoke quietly. “You still have blood running through your veins… don’t forget that.” I warned her. Then I turned… And left her alone in my room.
