Such a to-do met your letter upon its arrival in this evening’s post!
Kitty, as you may have heard, has acquired an admirer — one Thomas Giniver, whose father, as it happens, is August Giniver, the 12th Earl Malkin, et cetaera, whom you probably remember hearing of from your time here in Derbyshire. Well, young Master Giniver has written Papa to beg his permission — not to ask for Kitty’s hand, but to court her.
Papa, who wrote me, is wildly amused, as one would expect, and told me that he granted the boy permission to pass the time with his daughter — since the boy was clearly going to do so whether Papa said yay or nay.
