"Pain?" My eyes snapped open. "You said this wouldn't hurt."
Above me, Lunessa rolled her eyes. Mireya and Karin both looked uneasy.
It was early afternoon the next day. Elara's baby was still sleeping in the den, and everyone was moving around in careful silence. No raised voices. No sharp sounds. The air already felt tight. I should have asked more questions when Lunessa set up a soundproof barrier around us.
"Yeah. I did," Mireya said. "But Lunessa found a journal. Someone wrote about this spell before. The good news is that it worked. The bad news is that it hurt while it healed. After that, there was no pain. No side effects." She gave me a steady look. "It's a regrowth spell."
That did not make me feel better.
