[Sarah]

I was going about my daily chores. Suddenly from my hindsight, I found out that Elijah was just about to topple off the table. Instinctively, I cast the basic wind spell, "[Zephyr]"
As my hands stretched, I was anxious if the spell would reach him in time. But everything ended well as the 'spell' did its job. Elijah was levitated back upon the table.
"Fuu~~..."
I let out a sigh of relief. Elijah was fine. But apparently, he had fainted due to the surprise. I rushed to his side to check on him. Fortunately, there was nothing wrong with him.
"You made Mama worry~~."
Smiling, I lightly pinched Elijah's rosy cheeks finding him cute in his sleep.
A few hours later.
I found Elijah was awake from his slumber. He intensely looked at me for a few moments. But he soon went back to playing with his cutlery. However, I found his peering gaze a little weird. I left it as nothing more than his childish curiosity.
Probably, he was surprised to find my magical prowess.
(Hehe)
I giggled at my childish thoughts. Suddenly, I remembered the incident when I told Ravial about my pregnancy. He was jumping like a kid. I smiled as I recollected the scene. He suddenly got so protective of me. He would always insist on doing housework and not take stress about the petty house chores.
"Ravial..."
My eyes were tearful. I remembered the sullen look on Ravial's face when he conscripted for the army. I remember his parting words,
"Sarah, please welcome our baby without me."
He said, smiling wryly with moisture-filled eyes. His broad back had shrunk to the tiniest it had ever been.
"Elijah, your father, Ravial, will be back soon."
I said it more to myself than to Elijah. Elijah's eyes looked at my tears which trickled down on my face. I felt shameful showing my pathetic self to Elijah. I immediately wiped them and beamed a smile at Elijah. To which he giggled back at me, making me laugh instead. I ruffled his hair.
"Good Boy."

[Elijah]
[Magic]
I was utterly shocked. [Magic]. I laughed in my mind as I had found myself thinking more than once,
("Is there anything special about this world?")
Are there any fantasy adventures that would take place here?
Are there mythical creatures present here?
Catching my train of thought, I faced another dilemma.
Did I ever want to live a peaceful life in the first place? Or was I hoping for something more?
Something fulfilling.
("[Magic], huh?")
I sighed.
So, it took me about two months to figure out that there existed magic in this world. Utterly Pathetic. I rebuked myself for my lack of awareness. I always wondered,
("Why is the food here cooked as fast as it would take back on earth or sometimes even faster?")
So, 'magic' was the solution to all the questions that poked my head. 'Magic' was used in doing the simplest of household chores.
But, now another question came.
("What were those green particles?")
If my guess is correct, they should be some prerequisite for performing [magic].
I started observing my mother more deeply as she went about her daily chores.
It took about three more weeks. When I finally figured it all out. So, let's start with how the population is categorized here. First, there exist two types of people in this world. Those who can perform 'magic' and those who can't. Those who can perform 'magic' were called - "Jads" and "Mages." And those who could not; were called - "Duffs."
There was a further distribution in the Magic category between those who had talent in 'Magic' and pursued it seriously were called Mages. And those who were less talented and chose not to pursue it were called "Jads."
The Duffs had a tough time around. Most of the work required magic. So, the work done by Duffs was inefficient, time-consuming, and arduous. But, Duffs also had a chance to make a better livelihood. That was by becoming a "Swordorn," which was by wielding a sword. Only for those who had talent in it.
The Jads had it much easy. They had a better livelihood. And there were always available jobs for them. They also had an easier time handling the household chores and put in much less effort than the Duffs while doing the same work.
My mother was a Jad.
The Mages were a higher existence for a village. I heard that in the neighboring "Alvera village," when a girl was born had good Magical Talent and was a Mage in becoming; They held a big feast to celebrate this good piece of news.
My father used to be an apprentice mage. He was the strongest in the village. His magical talent was a level better than the Jad, so he pushed his luck and worked hard. Eventually, he got the title of "apprentice mage." This title was what led to his forced conscription.
Now, the main discovery.
"[Mana]"
They were tiny particles responsible for the casting of all magic spells. They were invisible and spread throughout the atmosphere. When a person would cast a 'spell,' it invoked the discharge of mana through one or more distinct mana veins present in our body. The chanted spell would then help give a definite form to the mana and do the needed.
Now, he knew that the green particles he saw that day were the supposed mana particles. He found out, through repeated experiments, he was only able to see the mana particles when he was in the [Vision Switch].He named the black-and-white vision as [Vision Switch] for convenience.
At first, he thought that the [Vision Switch] activated sporadically. But with time, he found out that it was not the case. Whenever he intensively focused on something or whenever he was emotionally unstable, it would automatically be activated.
When the [Vision Switch] switched on, he found out that it would consume his [Mental Energy]. He had no way of cutting its consumption off. Eventually, making him faint due to excessive loss of [Mental Energy].
He also discovered that, little by little, the time taken for him to faint eventually increased. The only thing this meant was that his [Mental Energy] increased too. Every time he devoured his mental energy completely, his [Mental Energy] would grow slightly too.
He ascertained that the [Vision Switch] more of a blessing rather than a curse. All he had to do now was
Control it.
And it would become an ultimate power.
