XIt was gone ten, and she hadn’t arrived. Patrick pulled at his bow tie and checked his Nokia. His finger hovered over the button to call her, but then he paused for a moment, and the impulse passed. The Summer Ball was the highlight of the Student Union calendar. Tickets cost an arm and a leg, but the show they bought was pretty spectacular. Fire eaters, jugglers and magicians mingled with the party-goers. A huge fun-fair filled the air with retro disco music. The smell of hot dogs and candy floss wafted on the cool summer breeze. In the massive field, the DJs were setting up for their sets. Everywhere, the shrieks, laughter, and raucous noise of students letting their hair down after the gruelling end of year exams could be heard. For some, like Patrick, this was to be the last Summer
