Chapter Sixteen - Trail Gabriella's POV My heart began to race extremely fast as my eyes gazed at George's bright screen and ears focused on the footsteps drawing closer. I knew that it was Tami who had just stepped in, after all she was George's wife which meant she was the only one who had access into the house. I gulped a lump down my throat as I hastily jerked off the bed. I hastily packed my things and made my way down the stairs. The last thing I wanted to do was have Tami find me very suspicious, she was merely a target. I knew George was the one pulling the strings and in order to take Tami down, I needed to take George down first. As I slowly made my way down the stairs, I bumped into Tami. Her eyes widened in shock at my presence. I watched her mouth open and a gasp escaped from her lips. I cleared my throat and forced a small smile on my face in order to maintain composure. "Good evening Tami," I said in a gentle tone. The shocked look on her face was replaced with one of anger. I saw her clench her fist tight and grit her teeth in anger at me. She scoffed and eyed me with utter disdain. "What is so good about the evening and what are you doing at my house?" She snapped at me with a scowl plastered on her face. I rolled my eyes at her. The last thing I wanted to do was bicker with her. "Your husband and i had dinner with some of our other team members. I am sure you are aware of th---" Tami had not even let me complete my sentence. She scoffed loudly and interrupted me in haste. "So what? That was not the question I asked you. I said what are you doing in my husband's house?" I mean our house." Tami fired at me. I sighed heavily in response and fought back the urge to yell at her. I was only one step away from snapping at her. "If only you would just let me finish my sentence," I sneered. "George got drunk at the team dinner and there was no one to help him home. I only did your husband a good favor by bringing him home. I think you should be grateful," I pointed out. Tami choked out a bitter laughter. "Grateful? Is that why you had to follow him all the way to our bedroom? Why should I trust you?" She yelled at me. I took a few steps backward, a little startled by her sudden outburst. I cleared my throat and just as I was about to reply to her, my phone beeped loudly, interrupting me. I paused to fetch my phone out of my purse and glare at the screen. It was a text message from Lucian. "Hey, you are not home yet, everything okay?" "Your husband? He must be worried about you. "Did you tell him that you are in the house of someone else's husband?" Tami blurted out. I ignored her, I tossed my phone into my purse and gazed back at Tami, ready to give her my final speech. I took a few steps closer to her and c****d my head to the right. I made sure to lean closer to her, just so she could hear my words, loud and clear. "I do not know what is wrong with you, but I think it might be your insecurities bothering you. "I have no interest in your husband, trust me." I said, emphasizing my words. Without hesitation, I brushed past her shoulders and began to make my way out of the house. Just as my hands reached for the door knob, Tami's next words caused me to freeze in my steps. "This is a warning for you, Gabriella. Stay away from my husband or else I will make you regret it." I felt zero fear about her threats. I ignored her by pushing the door open. As I made my way outside, I breathed a heavy sigh as the cool breeze from outside pulled my hair sideways. I adjusted my position outside and spent a few minutes enjoying the peace and quietness. Eventually, i made my way into the car. I started the car and zoomed off into the streets. My mind could not leave the papers and documents I had seen in George's room. I reminded myself to send James everything I had seen. Hopefully James would have a perfect explanation for it. After some minutes of driving, I finally arrived at the house. To my uttermost surprise, I met Lucian standing outside the house. He had a worried look plastered on his face. I felt my heart warm a bit, knowing that someone was outside waiting for me. As I slowly made my way towards Lucian, I heard him sigh in relief. "God, I was so worried about you." He rushed towards me and gently placed his hands on my arm. Our eyes met for a brief moment and i flashed him a reassuring smile. "I can handle myself," I said jokingly. "Still, you had me worried a whole lot. Are you okay? Why did your team dinner take longer than expected? Did something terrible happen? "You look tired." Lucian threw questions at me. I shook my head in disagreement. "No, I am just tired, work is really stressful," I said. Lucian had not taken his hands off me. He raised a brow at me. "Are you sure?" I nodded my head at him, flashing him a grateful smile. "Thank you," I muttered. I slowly brushed past him and made my way into the house. Without wasting any more time, I sent all the pictures to James, every single document I had found in George's house. I sent it all to James. Afterward, I made my way to the room. I laid on the bed and, just as I was able to shut my eyes. I got another message for the umpteenth time. I knew it was James probably ready to update me. As my hands reached for my phone. I unlocked the screen and, to my uttermost surprise, it was not James. It was an unknown number. "Stay out of trouble if you do not want to end up like your parents."
