219 Words
Sam The next night, I sat by my window earlier than usual. Her light was on again, her curtains still drawn. I tapped lightly on the frame, knowing she probably couldn’t hear me. “Come on, Ella…” Nothing. Just silence. But I wasn’t giving up. So I pulled out my notebook and scribbled a few words. Then, with a bit of tape, I stuck the paper against my window where she could see it: “You’re not invisible.” And I waited. Ella I wasn’t going to look. I promised myself I wouldn’t. But curiosity… it always won. Slowly, I pushed the curtain aside just enough to see. He was there, leaning against the window, arms folded, like he had all the time in the world. And taped to the glass was a note. You’re not invisible. Something tightened in my chest. It felt… unfair. That he could write something so simple, yet make me want to open the window. I almost did. My hand hovered over the latch. But then I remembered the whispers. The laughter. And I let the curtain fall again. Sam She looked. I knew she did. And even though she closed the curtain, it felt like a victory. Because if she looked once, she’d look again. And when she did, I’d be waiting.
