Chapter 3

1529 Words
Rocky’s POV As I approach the front yard ,I smell the old musty smell of the house. When I step foot on the front steps of the house, I hear creak sounds coming from beneath the floorboards. The sounds seems to be getting louder and louder as I step further towards the door. Just at the door, there’s an old stepping mat with the writings 'welcome'. The wooden door still stands strong considering the hardwood it was used for it’s making. Wrappings my hands around the dusty handle and try to pull open the door but it’s locked. Of course it’s locked, my mom would never leave the house like that and there’s no caretaker. Knowing my mom like I do, I slide the doormat slightly and TARAAA.., the keys. Of course she will leave the keys at the door With the mentality that know one will anticipate them to be there . Picking the keys, I slowly push it in with a bit of difficulty considering it hasn’t been used for a long while. Eventually, the door unlocks and I push it open. Walking in, I entangle myself in sticky cobwebs which were draped over the door frame. It’s a good thing I got over my arachnophobia along time ago. Yeah, I used to have a major fear of spiders, like I literally couldn’t stand them, but with a bit of help from my mom and a little therapy, it finally paid off. Old shredded curtains hang from the window left and right. Damn, this place smells like rotten papers, the whole house is disastrously dirty but since I already came all the way here, I have no choice but to clean this place up. It’s only half past two in the afternoon, I think that’s enough time to at least make this place suitable for human habitat. I have to start with the basic, which is putting music on to the loudest to get the motivation. And then clearing all the trash and worn out wood and paints which fell off from the ceiling and the walls to dusting off the entire place. I then replace the curtains, vacuum the sofas and the carpet to dusting all the furnitures. In simple words, I did almost all the tidying up of the entire house. After I was satisfied with my accomplishment, I then decide to go outside and make the yard look like some living creature with two arms and a straight mind lives here. After about one and half hours I am done with it. To say I am tired at this point is an understatement, I am exhausted. I take a stroll around the yard to check if anything needs fixing up or replacement, after my survey, I realize some window glasses needs replacement and I also need some painting. I walk back inside the house and it’s almost 6pm, I’m famished. I don’t need to check the fridge since I might find a 15 yrs old steak that’s molded to the core . So before settling down for the night, I choose on going to the mall for groceries shopping and the few things I need for the House. I pick my jacket and take some cash with me and my truck keys. Exiting the house, I hop in the truck, start the ignition and drive off to the town. In a few minutes time, I’m at the entrance of the mall . I pack my truck on the side of the road and work inside. As am slowly pacing to the direction of the supermarket., I don’t miss the stares and the gazes from the ladies. And that gets me thinking like ‘so I still have it’, the charm , you know. You know I might behave like a nerd and have super nerdy behavior but am not that bad looking. I work out once in a while, am 6’3 that should say am tall enough, I have green eyes , I mean am way better for an average dude. So yeah, the gazes are just appreciations. I ignore them , of course , they are not the reason why I came here and besides I can’t seem to get through a conversation with a lady without getting chills on my bones. Let’s just say am kinda shy and scared of women, they are very intimidating. I finally get into the supermarket and I get everything I need into my basket. I walk over to the counter and I settle my bill. I’m carrying my grocery bags and I notice how this whole place has changed, it’s way modernized and there’s lots of shops in it now compared to before. Resolving to do a little window shopping, I start working around admiring stuffs in the shops. I see a watch shop just a few feet from me, opting to go check some goodies in there, I walk towards it. Before I could even step foot on the entrance I’m hit hard on the back thats how all my groceries run through different directions. Oh God, I can’t breath, what in the name of pasta is that. As I try to lift myself up from the ground,a hand is stretched out for me to catch. “Am sorry man, I wasn’t seeing where I was going”, A guy with blue eyes and curly blonde hair apologizes as he helps me up from the floor. “ it’s okay”, I state as I brush off dust from my garments. “Here are your bags handsome, sorry about my brother”, another cheerful voice speaks from behind me. I turn to see a happier and a bit younger version of this other guy, only difference is, the hair. This one’s got brown hair instead of blonde. “Thank you, it’s fine. Am sure he didn’t see me”, I respond as I get my groceries back from the guy. “Yeah , anyway you don’t seem to be a small town guy handsome”, he states still smiling and gazing at me. “Is it that obvious, huh?”, I question avoiding his gazes a little bit, it was getting uncomfortable. “Yep. We don’t get to see cute cute faces everyday”, he says cheerfully. It is getting awkward so I don’t have anything to respond other than just nod and smile. “We didn’t catch your name. My name is Larry and this serious clumsy guy is Jeremy”, he introduces in the most cocky way possible. “ oh, Am Roque, it’s a pleasure to meet you both”, I respond extending my hand to both of them simultaneously. “The pleasure is ours Roque”, Jeremy is the one who talks this time round, he doesn’t look to be one of many words . I kinda might have gotten new friends on my first day here. We chat a little bit and Jeremy offers me a tour around the town tomorrow as a compensation for knocking me down , he says. I agree cause I see no harm in a simple hike and besides these two seem to be nice guys especially Larry, he’s so chatty and fun to be around. I tell them my address and they promise to come for me tomorrow. They take their leave and that’s when I feel like someone is watching me. You know that uncomfortable feeling that has you like someone is stalking you??, yeah that’s what I am getting now. So I walk around for a little while and am still getting uncomfortable, I turn around hastily and am sure I saw a shadow quickly disappear. Or maybe am mistaken , it’s probably the fatigue and hunger so I decide to brush it off. I exit the mall , get into my truck , put my groceries and other stuff on the backseat before driving off to my house. A couple minutes pass and am removing the groceries from my truck , unlocking the door and heading straight for the kitchen. Without wasting anymore time, I start preparing a quick dinner consisting of pasta and steak since it’s the best one I can do. Actually, I used to watch my mom make dinner but it’s the pasta that was simpler to master. So I start preparing the ingredients very fast and soon enough I begin to make dinner. In less that an hour, am done making dinner and am sitting at the patio eating while watching the moon. So here’s a little fact about me, am super in love with the moon, no in fact am obsessed with it. There’s just something about it that makes me feel calm and serene. It’s like the world is a dark place and the moon is like an opening giving hope and light to the world to not give up. I know it’s kind of weird and absurd but that’s what I always feel. So as I enjoy my dinner and gaze the moon , I sip the wine on my glass hoping for a better tomorrow.
