Ain’t it crazy how a single organ in our entire body could make such a great impact on how our body function.

Biologically, the heart’s main function of the body is to pump blood but realistically the heart does more than just pumping blood.

Sitting here right next to my mate , smiling like a crazy maniac and feeling ecstatic inside is simply because my heart is full.

Roque is still unconscious but he is breathing and that’s all that matters. He is been through a lot and I think he deserves the rest especially now that my psycho of a cousin is around.

“Your highness”, familiar feminine voice calls out.

“Yes priya”, I turn around to see priya standing at the door in a lab coat and her files on one of her hands.

“The king’s health is perfectly fine. I ran some tests this morning and everything is okay. He might wake up anytime from now”, she expresses with a smile.

Hearing the news, I was torn between being happy that my mate will finally be awake or be scared that he might remember everything and decide to leave.

“Ahh really??”, I fake a smile looking at priya.

“Yes Alpha, I will keep an eye on him for the time being and let you know if any changes occur”, she explains.

“Okay priya, I’m heading to my office please let me know if anything happens.” I state before giving my mate one last look and walked out.

In no time I reach the office and I begin with the paperwork.

I find myself buried in paperwork that I didn’t check the clock. It’s already a quarter past nine .

I bet dinner is over and done with, at least this way I can avoid having dinner with Luka.

I shut down my laptop and place my papers in an orderly way before heading towards the kitchen to find something for fill my tummy.

Like I had anticipated, no one is at the kitchen at this hour. Everyone had retired to their chambers.

I go over to the fridge and I found some food packed and labeled ‘’alpha’. This must be Maria’s doing.

Every time I miss on meals she places aside for me and label them.

I’m so grateful for this woman.

I pick up the dish smiling and take it to the microwave. Set up the heating time while I take a bottle of wine of the kitchen cellar.

I hear the beep sound of the microwave I turn it off , take my food and head over to the patio to have a quiet dinner while admiring the moon goddess.

“Mother goddess, I’m not sure if I’m doing the right thing. I’m asking for your help mother. I don’t want my mate to get hurt , he’s only but human and I know you gave him to me with a reason. Whatever your reason is , I’m going to trust it. All I pray and ask for is for you to lighten my dark path so I can protect my mate and my people”, I send prayer while looking up at the moon goddess.

I believe in divine protection and right now that’s all that’s keeping me going.

And after that,for some weird reason I felt lighter on the inside and the goddess shone a little brighter .

And with that , I muttered a thank you before heading back inside leaving the dishes and the empty bottle on top of the kitchen table before retiring to my chambers.

Deep in my sleep, I started hearing screams and cries of agony.

Saying the same thing over and over again.

“Fire, fire, fire”,

The shouts continued but I didn’t have the strength to move my body nor open my eyes. All I felt was the temperature of my entire surroundings getting Higher and higher and there was nothing I could do.

I could feel my body sweating and the pain of the heat spreading all over my body with the speed of lightening.

Trying to escape from the fire but I didn’t have the strength to, trying with all of my might to call on to Vera but for some reason she couldn’t respond.

I felt helpless and lost.

Suddenly there was a voice in my head that called loudly.

“Alpha the king is on heat”,

And with that my eyes flash open as my entire body drenched of sweat and beads of sweat dripping from my head down my face.

I was having a nightmare but I’m also on heat and so is my mate.

“Priya, how is he?” I mindlink priya as I try to put on the full AC of my room which wasn’t helpful.

“We have placed him on the bathtub full of ice but I’m not sure if it will help. You need to come alpha”, priya responds.

“Okay”, I state before cutting off the link.

Going to Roque right now is a lot riskier, I might do more damage than helping.

I know a touch of your mate can ease the heat but I’m not sure if my predator side can control herself.

In simpler terms, vera is not thinking with her head but her p***y.

And if Vera takes control while I’m with Roque she might just fulfill her s****l desires, forcefully.

Speaking of which , she’s awfully silent now, considering the circumstances she should be pestering me now.

I guess she’s still napping and I might take advantage of the fact that she’s not active so as to help my mate.

I go to the bathroom and get rid of my drenched clothes I stand if the cold shower for a moment to ease my pain before settling for an oversized shirt and head over to my mate.

My way to the infirmary was longer than usual. The closer I got to the infirmary the harder it was for me to control my own heat.

The pain was getting intolerable. Roque’s scent was lingering every where in the building and only got stronger has my steps got closer.

I thought even with Vera sleeping, I couldn’t feel the heat as much as I am feeling but I guess I was wrong.

In a moment, I was at the doorway of the room where Roque was.

His scent was unbelievably strong that it was making my sanity take a break.

I wasn’t thinking straight and that’s when my little trouble maker half made her presence noticed.

“Mate”, she states as hunger and desires evident in her tone.

“Vera please, lay low. I need you to control your horny ass so we can help out mate”, I plead with her.

She gets silent for a moment then begin to howl.

“Okay but I can’t make promises kiky”,she states in low tone.

“No vera, you need to try to control. We are going to lose him if you do something stupid again”, I scold her as I feel a rush of heat run through my back and Roque’s scents gets more stronger than I possibly thought it could.

“I hope you control yourself first kiky”, Vera sarcastically said.

I ignore her and push the door open , I hear voices coming from the bathroom and my eyes begin to see red.

The closer I get to my mate , the harder it was to control myself.

There and then I walk into the bathroom and I see Roque’s image in a blur on the bathtub.

“We’ll excuse you now Alpha”, I hear doctor priya mutter before she and a few nurses walk out of the room shutting the door closed.

“How are you feeling”, I hesitantly asked Roque as I stand a few feet from him.

“I feel hot everywhere and even with this ice cubes the heat is voracious”, he states in a husky voice as if trying to control himself from screaming in pain.

“I’m going to come closer and try to ease the pain, is that okay”, I question hesitantly. Deep down trying to control my own demons from taking control.

“Your voice is familiar, I can’t see you clearly. My eyes are blurred because of the pain. But I want to trust you, I feel I can trust you. Can I”, he expresses while stuttering.

His voice and his words somehow makes my heart break and shutter into tiny pieces.

How can he trust me after everything I have done??

I thought to myself but I I had to snap out my self pity party and help my mate.

“Of course, I just want to help you with the pain”, I respond trying to hold back tears and my throat felt a burning sensation.

I get closer to Roque , taking heavy breaths trying to control my now tenacious will.

I carefully get inside the bathtub and laying down behind roque as I let him lay his head on my chest.

“Just give it a moment, you’re going to feel better”, I tell him as I stroke his arms lightly.

“I can feel it , it’s getting better. Thank you”, he states cheerfully as he turns his head to look at me.

In a snap second, his expression turn from happy to horrific.

He back up from the bathtub getting up and going towards the door.

“Please don’t kill me, please”, he pleads as his eyes turn dreadful as if he is looking at a monster.

Well, that’s when I realized my nightmares have finally come to reality.
