ALPHA NICK POV
I came to the Alpha ceremony, walking into the grand hall filled with power and pride, but what I saw was a scene that burned in my chest.
A girl was being dragged like dirt across the floor. My wolf growled inside me the moment my eyes caught her. I moved as fast as I could and pulled her away before more damage could be done.
My heartbeat raced faster than it ever had before. My wolf howled fiercely inside me. It’s her! She’s our fated mate!
Just after I saved her she was taken away from the party.
I clenched my fists, holding back the urge to snarl. My eyes went to my Beta. “Find out her name immediately.”
After the Alpha’s gathering party, I was in the guest room that Alpha Dominic had provided for me to stay in during the gathering. I sat there sipping my drink, though my thoughts were still back in that hall. My Beta entered quietly.
“Alpha Nick,” he said, bowing slightly, “the girl’s name is Anna. She’s Alpha Dominic’s mate… but she was born a rogue omega. She’s treated as nothing more than a slave.”
The glass in my hand slipped slightly before I slammed it down. Rage burned through my chest. “I see.”
I slammed my fist on the table, the wood cracking under the force. My wolf appeared, his voice echoing in my mind. Nick, you will be her second chance mate. We have to take her away before it’s too late. She’s in danger here.
I nodded to my wolf. “I know. I’ll find her.”
I stood up, power rolling off me, and left the room.
I searched every corner of the pack house to find her but I didn't see her until a maid said Anna was in Dominic’s room. I wanted to go back to my room but when I saw Selena coming out of Dominic’s room, the same room which one of the maids had just mentioned Anna is in, I had no choice then to check what was really going on there.
The moment I opened the door, my chest twisted. Anna was on the ground, trembling, her body weak from pain and rejection. She was about to collapse when I caught her in my arms, pulling her against me before she could hit the ground.
“Hey, it’s okay,” I whispered, lowering her gently. Her lips were bleeding, her body shaking like a fragile leaf in the wind. I made her sit, brushing the hair from her face.
Dominic's voice cut through sharply. “Who the hell let you in? And who gave you permission to touch her?”
Before I could even speak, he transformed his hand and swung at me. My reflex was faster. With one strike, I sent him crashing to the ground.
I glared at him, my wolf snapping in fury. “Get your dirty hands off my mate.”
Dominic spat blood, his face twisting. “Your mate? Anna is mine!”
I pointed at him sharply. “Listen to me and listen well. She already accepted your rejection. Your bond has been severed, permanently! She’s no longer yours.”
Anna was still struggling, her body shaking, her eyes half-closed as she tried to hold on. Dominic shouted, his voice filled with rage and desperation.
“Think carefully about this, Anna! Do you hear me? Without me, you’re nothing but a lonely, wolfless, orphaned omega! And if you leave, don’t come back!”
My eyes softened as I looked at her. I held out my hand. “The choice is yours, Anna. Do you want to stay, or do you want to leave with me?”
Her weak hand reached for the necklace around her neck. She gripped it tightly, then with trembling fingers, she tore it off.
Her voice cracked, but her words pierced straight through me. “Take me. Please.”
Dominic yelled from the ground, his rage uncontrollable. “She's my mate! I will never let you take her away!”
I looked down at him, my voice steady. “I'm taking her with me and there's nothing you can do about it.”
I lifted Anna carefully into my arms and carried her away.
The next morning, I entered the room where Anna had been resting. My Beta, Alex, stood at her side, watching closely.
I looked at him. “How is she? It’s a long journey back, with the poison in her. Do you think she’ll be able to make it?”
Anna was lying in the bed, still asleep, but her body shook with weakness.
Alex’s face was grim. “I’m afraid not. She has both old and new wounds from constant abuse. She’s malnourished, anemic from starvation. Her body is barely holding on.”
Anger clawed at me. My jaw tightened. “Not even an omega deserves treatment like this.”
Alex sighed. “I think it’s because she didn’t have a wolf.”
My eyes softened as I turned to her. “Thank you, Alex.”
He nodded and left, closing the door behind him.
I walked closer to the bed. My chest ached when I heard her voice. She was speaking in her sleep.
“No… Dominic, no! Please don’t hit me!”
Her words ripped into me.
I rushed to her side with a glass of water. “Anna, wake up. Hey, it’s okay.”
But before I knew it, she jerked awake, struggling wildly. The glass shattered in my hand as she panicked. Her eyes met mine, wide with fear.
“I’m sorry! I’m so sorry!” she cried, trembling.
I shook my head and gently brushed the hair from her face. “Anna… don’t be afraid.”
She bent her head low, whispering, “Please don’t hit me.”
My heart broke. I crouched beside her. “Do you often get hit?”
She lifted her eyes slowly. “Aren't all slaves?”
I clenched my fists, forcing calm into my voice. “You have to eat.” I brought the food closer.
She looked at it with uncertainty. “I’m… still allowed to eat? Even though I spilled the water?”
“Of course,” I said firmly. “Anna, you didn’t do anything wrong. Eat.”
Her hands shook as she grabbed the food. She began eating, but she rushed, stuffing it down quickly.
“Anna,” I called softly. She looked up at me, crumbs on her lips. “Slow down.”
Her eyes filled with fear. “If I slow down, they’ll take it away, I have to eat quickly.”
My chest tightened. She continued rushing the food. I reached out, gently wiping the crumbs from her lips.
Moon Goddess… why didn’t I find her sooner? I thought, staring into her broken eyes.
Then, for a moment, her wolf’s presence flickered inside her gaze. My wolf howled. Our bond flared. I leaned down and kissed her softly.
But before I could deepen the kiss, Alex’s voice interrupted.
“Alpha Nick. Dominic requests your presence. He’s refusing to let you take Miss Anna.”
