Margo
Fred let me out of the Cells and into one of the rooms so I could switch back to Farron. He turned his back so I could get changed. Having someone knowing was so useful. Nika sat in the corner looking at me with concern. I think she knew that this was going to take a lot to pull off. Maybe she doubted me putting my faith in the Rebel. I had to try right?
"He took the bait. Now what?" Fred said with his back still to me as I put the wig on. Argh! I actually liked playing a woman. It had been so long. I missed it. Having Kaden look at me gently instead of the hard glare of hatred. I didn't feel so alone or empty. As Margo I had felt so empty for so long. The only time I felt a slight bit of warmth was with Fred but even with him the lie I kept ate away at me. Now with Fred on side it was a little easier to bare. Though Kaden.... It was different with him. Something was every different. When his hand touched mine it was like a fire inside me.
"He took the Bait. We get my family to safety then help him escape. He will come after us once he can't find her or me.... this is confusing." I muttered Fred chuckled. I was dressed back as the person I had been pretending to be for nearly two years. I pushed Fred out the way with a chuckle of my own. He recovered quickly before joining me on the walk back to the Manor. Just as we were about to get there I realised something. "Fred being Margo isn't going to work out in front of my family. My father knows the name. He's the one who got me the name. What do I do?" Fred rubbed my shoulder reassuringly. He looked down at me.
"Just go in there as Margo and act normal. See how they react." He was right. I didn't know if Dad had told them. I didn't know how I was going to get through seeing them again but I had to be the d**k I become. It was going to suck. With Fred and Nika by my side I knew that I could do this. We walked into the manor and into the entertaining area where my family were stood. Three men stood around them. They all looked awful. Battered and bruised. Their clothes ripped and grubby. They were half the people they were when they left. I froze on the spot at seeing them, it paralyzed me. I knew my leaving had to have put them in trouble and I had spent two years trying to do something but only now was I in the position to help. They stood there stiff and full of fear. They looked so scared. Harry stood by Dad's side hiding mum behind them. Protectively from me. I looked at my men.
"Where did you find them? They look like they've been in hell." I shouted making my men flinch. I walked over to them and grabbed the closest one to me. "Did you not hear me ask you a question?" I shouted at him. Fred touched my back to try and relax me but I felt so sick and angry I wanted to kill someone. Anyone.
"The Lord of West Warren was holding them as prisoners. He wasn't going to release them until I said that you'd march on West Warren and kill him. He figured it was better to have you as an friend instead of an enemy. He handed them straight over. This is the mess they came to us in Sir. We weren't sure of why you wanted them so we haven't cleaned them up." I let go of the Soldier I had grabbed looking at him. He knew I had a short temper. Everyone knew that. He swallowed loudly and moved back a step from me. Looking to the side where Fred was. Almost asking him for help.
"I'm sorry. Please can you get the Knights some food and water. Then can you get them fresh clothes." The Soldier looked at me confused before nodding and doing as I ordered. I looked over at the other two men. "Can you please leave so I can talk to them alone." The Soldiers nodded at me respectfully before leaving. I waited until the door was closed before looking up at my family. "There's no need to be afraid you are safe here." I said only for Harry to spit at me. Dad stared at me. Trying to understand why I had the name he gave his daughter. Did he think I took it from me?
"Lies. We heard of you Margo Farron. Everyone knows what you are." He spat. I looked at him the pain in my brother's voice hurt. I didn't want to think about what had happened to them. I couldn't. All of this was because of me. Though this confirmed my brother never told by them about why I was forced to leave. Or about the name.
"It's not lies Harry. You are safe here. Gateway can't hurt you anymore. You and your parents are going to be safe. Please sit down." Mum and Harry looked at my father who was still staring at me, Though he nodded. I could see either way he was intrigued to know who I was and why I had his daughter's fake name. They sat down looking totally unsure of anything.
"You have us here and listening. Now what?" My Dad spat. Did he not want to speak to me or was this him playing a part? I didn't know anymore. I closed my eyes trying to breath normally. I looked down at Nika. Hoping she gave me strength to face them.
"The King is dying as you all probably know. He has given orders for his daughter to be found. The daughter of Duchess of Nima. I know that she is you. I know that you and Andrew Knight are in hiding because of the fact that your daughter is the King's heir. He wants her to be found before he dies. What I need to do is make sure you three are never found." Harry laughed. While mum and Dad shared panicked looks.
"You're insane. My sister is not the lost Princess. Anyway it doesn't matter my sister ran away. She's more than likely dead. She left us behind to suffer two years of pain and suffering just because she couldn't face being married to an old man." The hatred in his voice was made crystal clear. He hated me. Not the Margo me. The Sky me. His sister. Me leaving had doomed them and there was nothing I could do to take away two years of suffering for them. Not even save them.
"Harry..." Mum whispered. Stopping him. "He's telling the truth. Sky is the King's heir. The King spent alot of time trying to catch my attention. I tried to tell him often no. Though he is not a forgiving man. The King forced himself on me when I told him I loved another. I became pregnant with Sky. Your Dad knew I would be held prisoner and forced into marriage so he hide me on West Warren. When Sky was nearly two he found us. We married and you were born a few months later. Sky didn't run away. She was going to marry Gateway. She was so petrified and would stay up at night in fear but she was ready to. For us. Your father and I agreed that we couldn't allow it. She was just a terrified girl. If she married Gateway he would have r***d her. Beat her. Done so much worse to her. Trust me Harry what we had done to us was nothing compared to what he would have done to your sister. She knew all that. She knew all that and still for us she was willing to marry him for us. To protect us. We couldn't let her have that life. Your father smuggled her out of the country. We have no idea if she's dead or alive." Harry shook his head looking green. He looked from mum to Dad waiting for them to say they were joking. They weren't. I was willing to marry that monster so this didn't happen to them. Dad gave me no choice. He sent me on that boat knowing what fate I was giving them. I regretted not fighting them every single day.
"Your daughter isn't dead...." I say making all of them look at me. I looked over at Fred. Giving him a nod. He moved over to the door and looks outside it before closing it then locking it. He gives me a nod. I took a deep breath then pull the wig off my head. My mum let's out a shriek as my hair tumbles around my shoulder. I clutched the Wig in my hand. I shook my hair out a little then lifted my head to look at my family. Their eyes were huge. Harry's mouth almost touched the floor. "I couldn't leave you behind to face that fate. I joined the army to become someone who could save you. Now I can. I have men ready to save you. To hide you. You have five hours to rest. Eat. Bath and get into fresh clothes. Horses will be ready to take you to a safe location. You will be given enough money to be comfortable. Papers will be given with new names and you are to never ever come back. To never speak of Sky Knight ever again. To the world Sky Knight is dead." I stared at my family's confused expression. I was quite upset that none of them looked happy to see me. Or even tried to come near me to see if I was real. They simply stared at me. Before I could over think it a knock at the door had me putting the wig back on and getting back to being Margo. Fred opened the door. Men came in carrying food and drink for my family.
"Captain there's a message from the King." Said Nick coming over and handing me a letter. I opened it up slowly trying to not show how badly my hands were shaking from my family's lack of response of seeing me again. I at least my father would have let out a breath of relief that someone hadn't killed me and stole my name though no. He stood there as stiff as the others.
"Farron, I have heard that you ordered a Black Smith. Gateway is not pleased about this. Though I've settled him down with the promise that if you find my daughter I will give him her hand in marriage. It appears that the Black Smiths daughter was to marry him and since he is without a wife he will have one. Gateway and I have an understanding and my daughter can't rule without a husband. He'd make the perfect match for her. If you have any information on her I would like to know as soon as possible. If I don't receive word in a week I will come to visit you. Your King."
Oh there is no justice in the world. Fred hovered behind me so I handed him the letter. He read over it before closing his eyes. That's how I felt. He looked down at me with a determine look on his face. One I saw Kaden give me a few minutes before. He wanted to save me. I knew no one could save me. Either way I was doomed. I was doomed the moment I was born. I made a vow right there and then that I wasn't going to take anyone down with me. Not my family. Not my men. No one. He walked over to the fire and threw the letter in the fire. He gave me a small smile as he shook his head. Telling me he wasn't going to let that happen. I don't know if he was going to have much choice. I looked around to see that we were once again alone with just my family.
"Cap we need to start putting things in place. The later we wait the more chance we have of the King finding out the truth." Freddie wasn't wrong. I nodded in agreement.
"You know what to do Fred. Get things started." He looked around to make sure we were alone before he grabbed me for a hug. He held me to him closely. I wrapped my arms around him. Letting myself be venerable for a moment knowing that Freddie would be there to catch me. It would seem my family were not. They had suffered for me. He kissed my forehead.
"It's going to be ok Cap." He whispered before disappearing. I looked at the door letting out a deep breath. Trying to build the pieces that were beginning to break inside me. I couldn't see a way out of this. As Farron or Sky. No way at all. I either died because I failed the King. Died because I was a woman pretending to be a man. Or married a monster. I closed my eyes tightly. Nika came over me. She put her nose to my shaking hand. I opened my eyes to look down at her. She sat down. Looking up at me. Tilting her head from side to side. Shadow Wolves were very powerful and full with Magic. I often wondered how much she knew. She was a powerful wonderful animal that had no business being my faithful friend. She should be in the woods with her pack. We both knew they were out there. I use to find her when I was in the Army stood outside my dorm looking out at the woods. Longing. I told her to go. Be free. Something I could never be but she had a sense of loyalty to me for saving her. One I didn't mind her breaking to join her pack. There was only one Shadow Wolf pack in the whole of the Kingdom and the Alpha had the power to transform into a human. He was a shapeshifter. All those with his blood could shape shift. I deeply believed that Nika could shape shift but simply didn't know how to. I reached out and rubbed her ear. She gave me courage. I looked at my family who were staring. I couldn't be the daughter. I couldn't. I had to be distant. I had too much riding on this. Besides my life.
"You should eat up. When you're done one of my servants will be in to show you to a room. Fred will come to you when it's time to go. I'm sorry you're suffering because of a me. I'm sorry that you had to suffer because I'm a constant reminder of what he did. I promise this is the last time you will ever see me or suffer because of me." I nodded at them then turn around and left. I couldn't help feel more heartache when none of them even tried to stop me. I walked through my house with Nika next to me until I stood outside in the courtyard. I needed to sweat and bleed. I whistled as loud as I could making some of my Men that were gathered around as they trained. I pulled out my sword slowly looking at them all. I held the blade out in front of me. "I'm feeling in a rotten mood. I'm ready to fight anyone who's willing. Anyone who gets me down will have double pay for the next week. Let's see if any of you p***y can get me down." The idea of double pay and a chance to take me down made my men move towards me. One at a time. Some times two or three at a time. When they saw the first few fail. Each time I took them down. I took hit after hit to the face and side but I was so angry at the world I blocked all the pain out. I'm not sure how long I stood in the middle of the court yard fighting my men but all I knew was that servants had gathered to watch. I even saw my family stood in the door way with clean clothes on. That just drove me. I kept taking down my men as if they were nothing until my body hurt from exhaustion and the injuries. I saw my men exhausting too. Mostly with frustration that they failed to take down one person. One small man.
"Get back to your post!" Fred shouted from somewhere just as I took down one last Soldier. He came over to me looking furious but he couldn't say anything because we had company, I was grateful for that fact. I bent over panting. Resting my hands on my knees. Covered in sweat and blood. My clothes soaked in the both. Blood ran down my nose and chin. I spat some out on the floor. Almost hitting Freddie's boots. "Feeling better Farron?" Fred spat at me in a whisper. "Look I understand this is hard but you killing yourself is going to help no one. So pull your s**t together. Go clean up and be ready. In two days time Kaden will escape and come after us. By which your family will be long gone. Put that Sword away." He stormed off towards the barns as I looked down at my sword that I was leaning on for support. Seeing my reflection. I was a mess and I didn't like what I saw staring back at me. I looked to Nika who was sat on the step looking angry herself. Then my eyes travelled to my family. I didn't know the emotions that were in their faces all I knew was that I didn't find it comforting. I sat down letting go of my sword, It fell to the side of me. I was too exhausted to move. I laid back on the hard floor. Staring up at the blue Sky. Nika came over and laid at my side. The protective wolf she is. She put her cold wet nose next to my neck. Trying to Comfort me.
"I just want to be free." I whisper to her. Knowing that it's something that will never happen.
