Leaving The Pack

2031 Words
My father and I had eaten our dinner veey quickly after Alpha Roger's announcement. We ate just about nothing and hurried out the door towards the backside of the pack house before stopping and just staring at each other. I still can't believe that this chance suddenly occured. A chance of getting away from here. "Father." I say with a wide smile. "Yes Pumpkin. This could be it. The chance that we've been waiting for. Oh, how I miss fighting. Don't get me wrong sweety, you know how I love our secret training but..." "I know father." I cut him off before he can finish his sentence. "I know how much you want to fight again and actually be of use, not just be the water boy that could woop all their asses with ease." "Pumpkin!!!" My father laugh and gently slap my back. A smile creeps onto my face and I start laughing too. "What? I'm not wrong though. You're better than all of them by miles and you know it!" My father just chuckles now and wipes a tear from his eye. "Oh Pumpkin. You sure know how to compliment this old man in the most awkward way. I guess you and I truly are very much alike, as others say." The look in his eyes are filled with so much love that I feel all warm inside. My father, the big and tough Beta Warrior, is also the biggest and most loving teddy bear you will ever see. At least when it comes to me and kids. He loves kids. He had wanted more than me as well but sadly, my parents never managed to get anymore. So, that's why I managed to wrap my sweet father around my pinky very early on. I have overheard him explain to others that I'm the moon that light up his night. "Earth to Myra. Can you stop your day dreaming now so we can discuss the matter at hand and make a plan?" I didn't even know I had been somewhere else in my head until he spoke. I got startled and flinched a little. "Huh? Oh, right! The bodyguard job! Well, I think we should both apply for it. Even if it's just a one person job, it would still mean that we would probably be able to move, both of us. And if we both apply, we double our chances." I see him turn his eyes away for a moment and get a distant look in his eyes. He is thinking about my suggestion. "I agree with you on the part of a bigger chance and that we might both be able to move to and join their pack. The problem is that I don't think that Roger would ever let me leave, just to rub it in even more that he is in control." my father says with sorrow in his voice. My father never calls him Alpha, more than when speaking to him directly. He will never see Roger as his Alpha. That will forever be the title of his late best friend Norton. They were childhood best friends. My father lost his best friend and his mate, his wife, at the same time. I can only imagine his pain. That's why I know that we need to leave this place, no matter what. "Father." I say with a firm and determined voice which makes him look at me with a questioning look. "We need to get away from here, no matter what. We have gone through so much because of him. We can't let him keep his grasp on us. We MUST leave." I emphasize the 'must'. His face changes into a blank one before he closes his eyes and sighs. "You are right, as always Pumpkin. And there is a way out of this pack if Roger refuses. It's a very dangerous thing to do but I think it will be the only way in the end. And I believe that you and me can achieve anything together. You're my pride and joy and I know that you can handle yourself amazing against just about anyone. Therefore, I say that if Roger says no, then we become rogues and then head for the Silver Sky Pack." My eyes turn huge from the realisation of what my father just said. We would have to become rogues where we would be a constant target of other packs if we don't manage to get the bodyguard job. We would risk it all on this. But he is right. It's the only way. "Father, I trust you and I agree. If anyone can make it as rogues, we could. And yes, it would be a huge gamble but being rogue must be much better than the way we are living now. The way we are suffering. I think we both have had enough. And I don't think that tje Silver Sky Pack will have a problem with letting us in if we tell them the truth, especially since we won't smell much of rogue is such a short amount of time." He nods in agreement. "I think we should leave immediately to be able to get there before nightfall. We never got a specific time for the start of the tryouts tomorrow so we should get there today to be sure that we are on time. We can probably ask for directions to a hotel close by or maybe even stay at the pack." My dad is right. That would be the best. "All of this trouble because our stupid Alpha doesn't even know how to make a proper announcement with all necessary details..." I mumble to myself but is of course heard by my father who tries to stifle a laugh. "Well, I can't do more than agree with you on that one. It's sadly true." He takes a deep breath. "Let's hurry up and pack our stuff and load the car now and then go straight to Roger and talk to him about this. Then we will see if we turn packless today or not." "Agreed." We hurry over to our small cabin, the one that has been my home forever, the one my father built for my mother after they mated. This cabin was his gift for her as he asked her to marry him. It's actually a human tradition but even though my father is an accomplished warrior, he is also a huge romantic, the reason for him liking the tradition of marriage. He asked her, right on the doorstep of this cabin, and when she said yes he also asked if he could mark her. Of course, my mother once again said yes. Oh, I get goosebumps just thinking about it. I wish my future mate will do something just as romantic for me. Because like my father, I'm also a romantic warrior of course. "Now just choose the stuff you need the most and not too many clothes. We can buy more later if we need it. Right now we just need to get done as fast as possible." my father says, snapping me out of my day dreaming once again. We walk inside and more or less throw stuff into a couple of big duffle bags. We're done in just a few minutes and before ww head out thr door of this cabin for the last time, we take the photos of us at the table beside the door, the photos of us all three together and happy. I feel a knot in my stomach. This really is it. We're leaving our home. I turn to look at my father, holding the pictures in his hands and I see some silent tears rolling down his cheeks. I put my arms around him and squeeze him tight. "I love you father." "I love you too Pumpkin." Then we head out the door, throws our stuff in the car and drive over to the pack house in search of Alpha Roger. The moment we reach the pack house, we see that Alpha Roger is just exiting the building, closely followed by his new Beta Dan and his Gamma Jan. Actually, Jan was the Gamma even when my father was the Beta. He has always been great at strategies and economics so to give him a high title was an easy choice for our former Alpha Norton. That Dan was awarded Beta after my father was because he was the best fighter of the pack after my father and Alpha Norton of course. The fun this is that Dan and Jan are twin brothers so they do work really well together. I can't say anything bad about those two having those titles. They deserve them. I just wish my father could at least have some kind of high rank in the pack even if he couldn't be the Beta anymore. He could have been Warrior Commander or something. All warriors are Deltas though if we use the correct term. All other members except the higher ones and the Deltas are called Omegas, such as me and my dad became. I can't stop myself from feeling my anger grow once again when I look at Alpha Roger coming to a halt right down the stairs of the pack house and looking at us when my dad stops the car in front of him. We step out and stand a couple of meters away and I stand one step behind to the right of my father. "Alpha." my father says. "What is it now Dalton?" he answers angrily. "Me and my daughter Myra would like to go apply for the position of bodyguard to the Alpha's daughter at the Silver Sky Pack." I watch as Alpha Roger first seems even angrier when he clenches his teeth really hard and his whole body stiffens but then he suddenly relaxes and puts on the widest and most evil grin I have ever seen him have. "Well well well. Of course you do. Sorry to disappoint you but I will not allow that. Now get back to your chores. The floors don't mop themselves you know!" He glances at me while saying that then looks back at my father. That f*cker knew we would want to do this. He knew and that's why he thinks it's even funnier that we actually tried to talk to him about it when we would get a clear NO. My father turns to me and look straight into my eyes. I give a slight nod. I know what will happen now and I'm as ready as I will ever be. My father turns back to Alpha Roger before he takes a deep breath. "Then I, former Beta but now Omega Dalton Jackson, hereby takes back my claim as a member of the Harvest Moon Pack." I hear gasps from the people around us and then I repeat what my father just said. "I, former Beta daughter but now Omega Myra Jackson, hereby takes back my claim as a member of the Harvest Moon Pack." More gasping and looks of utter shock on the faces of the people around us. Beta Dan and Gamma Jan just grins and nods a little in approval of our determination. I have always liked those two. But the best reaction is in Alpha Roger. He looks at us with eyes wide as saucers, mouth wide open and as pale as snow. He looks like he's seen a ghost. This. Is. Priceless. Turning rogue suddenly became all worth it by just seeing his face. "You... You..." is all he can say. My father turns around and motions me towards the car. I turn around to follow him and we stop at our doors then turn towards our former pack members again. "Thank you all for these years. We will miss many of you but you will never be forgotten. I wish you the best. Now we will take our leave. Goodbye." my father says and waves. I wave as well and say a short 'bye' before we both get into the car and drive off towards our new life.
