I was distracted. Even as Matteo gave orders on the trafficking we had to get done, I wasn't fully attentive. I could hear some of the things he said, and the rest was history as Japheth's disappointed expression kept replaying in my mind.
“Aaron!” I jolted when I heard my name and I turned to see Matteo glaring at me like I had just committed an outrageous sin. “Give me a summary of everything I just said.” He ordered with a scowl and I gulped nervously as everyone's eyes were suddenly on me.
“I— well… uhm—”
I didn't know what to say, I hadn't been listening.
Suddenly Matteo was in front of me as he smacked me so hard that I swore I heard my jaw snap. My head tilted to the side as blood filled my mouth and I spat it out instantly.
