Elena’s POV The puzzle pieces clicked softly under Leo’s fingers. He sat cross-legged on the living-room rug, tongue caught between his teeth, fitting another blue edge into place. Adrian sat on the floor beside him, sleeves rolled up, handing pieces when Leo pointed. I watched from the kitchen doorway, one hand wrapped around a cooling mug of tea. The afternoon light stretched long across the floorboards. For a few minutes the only sounds were the soft clicks and Leo’s occasional quiet “yes” when a piece locked in. Adrian’s phone buzzed on the coffee table. He glanced at the screen, then at me. The look in his eyes shifted. He stood, stepped into the hallway, and answered in a low voice.
