Elena’s POV
Leo finished two more edges of the puzzle without looking up. When his eyes started to droop, Adrian lifted him from the rug and carried him down the hall. I followed and stood in the doorway while Adrian pulled the covers up and brushed dark hair back from Leo’s forehead.
“Night, Daddy,” Leo murmured, already half-asleep.
Adrian’s hand froze for half a second above the blanket. Then he finished smoothing it flat.
“Night, kid.”
We left the door cracked. In the hallway Adrian leaned his back against the wall and closed his eyes. I stepped in close and rested my forehead against his chest. His arms came around me slowly, carefully.
“He just… said it,” he whispered into my hair.
I nodded against him.
