Dark Triad, this is where I live.
Our house is located in an extraordinary place.
Our city or town, I’m not really sure what the real term for it is, is right in the middle of a supernatural territory called the Dark Triad. Dark Triad is located in the eastern part of Texas near the border of Louisiana and the Gulf of Mexico.
Apparently, long ago, there used to be three separate supernatural territories. Each territory was made up with different supernatural beings, of all sorts of species.
There are many different types of supernatural beings. They are classified into three different categories. It is nothing official or even true categories, it is just something I came up with in a moment of boredom.
Supernaturals fascinate me.
So I found myself trying to learn about them. I wanted to know all there was to learn about them. So when I had the time, I would use it to study and gather all the information I could about the different types of supernaturals.
I managed to get some information about them, but not a lot. Not surprising, but many supernatural species try to limit the available information there is about them.
With what knowledge I did have, I started to put each type of supernatural into categories.
I managed to group them into three major groups. I am not really sure why, but it makes me feel a little better by categorizing or grouping them. It gives a little more comfort knowing the different types of supernaturals that are out in this word.
Within my own little brain, I was able to take a form of control by creating different groups to categorize everyone into.
There are the shifters, the mythical creatures, and then the unknowns.
The first category I created is the shifters.
Shifters are the creatures or people that have a human form and a creature form. They are generally able to shift between the two at will. I learned that there are a few instances where someone may be born as a shifter but may not actually have a creature form to shift into.
These supernaturals are the easiest to gather information on. There are many different types of shifters, but I only really focus my learning on the most common forms. People mostly hear about werewolves, werebears, and werecats. I know there are more, but like I said, limited information.
The different species of shifters like to live in secluded communities that are tucked back into the woods where they can run in their animal form freely. I once heard that there used to be several different packs of each type of shifter species that lived in different parts of this area. The shifters thrived here due to the large amount of forest that is in the surrounding areas.
Now there is only one large pack of the most common type of shifters in this area. There are a few shifters that are not in a pack that live more like drifters or just among the few humans here.
But from what I have heard, there are still hundreds of packs throughout the United States that still live in small secluded areas. There are packs that are still wary of humans and try to stay away from them.
The second category is mythical creatures.
The next category I created is populated with what I like to consider mythical beings. Not that shifters are not mythical, but I classify them differently because of their ability to transform into animal creatures. This category is made up of creatures that are well mystical, but only have one form.
These are creatures such as fairies and sprites. Those are the most predominant species, but it also includes trolls, nymphs, and mermaids. I guess being located so close to a large body of water allows mermaids to live here as well.
Fun fact: mermaids do not only just live in the water. They walk on land and live normal lives like any other supernatural creature living on land. I know it blew my mind to, apparently no secret, City of Atlantis.
The third category is the unknown.
This last category is what I consider as the unknown, due to not knowing very much about the creatures in this category. The creatures that are in this category I am not familiar with, so they have become the unknown. These are the creatures that I really do not ever come into contact with or don’t know that I come in contact with. They usually stay to themselves or their own kind, such as vampires, ogres, and dragons.
After the exposure of all that is supernatural, and their existence was no longer a secret. The three major territories joined together. For safety or something. I don’t really know that was part of history that was kind of vague and did not have a really concrete reason for the joint community.
So began Dark Triad, Texas.
I know it is not the most welcoming name, but it does sound pretty cool when you tell people you live in ‘Dark Triad’.
Supposedly, our city being named Dark Triad was a big ordeal that took a really long time to settle on. According to our territory’s history lesson that we are required to take, it was a lot harder for them to settle on one specific name that would encompass what the territory is supposed to represent. The elders that helped to join the territories debated and fought over giving the area a new name or just using one of the existing town names. Ultimately, they apparently decided a new name should be given to the new area.
The name Triad, to signify the obvious three territories that are combined. Obviously, this was the easy part. The ‘Dark’ in the name is supposed to represent the community of a variety of supernaturals coming together and living and working together.
I know, I know! Dark does not mean coming together or unity. What our history books tell us is that one of the elders decided on ‘Black’. Black being the color created when all colors are combined. Therefore, ‘black' would represent all species combining to create something new.
But because Black Triad sounds like a terrible cult, they changed the name to Dark Triad. Yeah, still not a very happy bubbly name, but it doesn’t sound like you are driving into the pit of doom when entering the territory either.
Soon, humans started to move into the community.
Work and education were available to everyone, even if they were humans and not supernatural. It was better than anywhere else, because supernatural beings only want the best, so they have the best job opportunities and highest ranked schools.
So apparently, that is why I live in Dark Triad. This is where my home is.
