Chapter 8

“Come one Sophia, just like old times” “I don’t know Sarah” “Just sit with us. Ella wants to come too, right?” Both girls turn to me. “Hey, leave me out of it”, I say as I lean back against the lockers. It’s lunch break and these two have been arguing about this for 15 minutes straight now since Sarah insisted we sat with her group for lunch. “It’s no big deal, you know all of us anyway”, Sarah pushed. “You know it’s about a lot more than that”, Sophia answered as they continued bickering. I honestly am really thankful I got immediately welcomed and made friends but these two are damn tiring. I started observing the rest of the hallway as most people were making their way to the cafeteria. Although I still got some looks for being the new girl, I feel a lot more relaxed than I did on Friday.   “Hey Ella”, I hear and turn to my right to see Liam, Adam and James walking by to the cafeteria. “Hey Liam”, I answer back and I see a charming smile coming to his face, before he flashes his  perfect pearly white teeth at me. Now I understand why girl say they almost faint whenever he’s around, holy f**k. To make it worse, he ran a hand through his beautiful golden locks before turning straight again. Of course Adam had to ruin the moment and threw a wink at me before walking away with his friends.   “That did not just happen”, Sarah spoke, her mouth wide open as she continued to look in the way they disappeared. “What do you mean, he just said hey”, I ask, confused at her reaction. “Liam is a sweetheart and all but he normally keeps to himself and his friends. He definitely never greets someone randomly in the hall, unless they greet him first of course”, Sarah explains as her eyes come back to me. “Yeah, and I could almost feel the hearts coming out of his eyes”, Sophia added. “Really now?”, I turn to Sophia to give her a look. “Aaaw, Liam has a crush on Ella”, Sophia chirped, a sheepish smile on her face. I switch my glare between the two but they just continue to creepily smile at me. “Whatever, can we go eat now?” “Yes, and we’re going to my table”, Sarah answers, directing the last part towards Sophia. “Fine”, Sophia pouted as the three of us started walking. The cafeteria was pretty big, filled with long tables and long benches connected to them.   “Oh my god, Sarah. You just brought my two favorite people in the whole world”, Oliver shouted as we walked up to their table. Jason huffed, glaring at Oliver who yet again didn’t seem to notice. What’s up with this dude? Oliver just smiled brightly at Sophia and me but Sophia just ignored him and sat next to Blake.   Oliver shook his head at her and motioned for me to sit next to him, Sophia at my other side, as Sarah sat in front of us. “I told you, she’s crazy about me”, Oliver started conversation as I sat down. “You’re an i***t, did you know that”, Sarah looked at him. “I agree”, Jason spoke, not looking up from his food. “Wow, you’re great friends. At least I still have Ella”, he turned to me, smiling like a little kid. “They’re right on this one, tho”, I shrugged and he immediately started pouting changing looks between the three of us. “What did I do for you three to turn on me like that”, he said, dramatically putting a hand on his heart. “I think that’s something you should figure out yourself”, Sarah shook her head and I nodded. “Fine, can we talk about something else then?” Oliver spoke. “What do you have in mind dork?” Sarah joked “Like when the next party is. I totally wanna see Ella drunk again”, he started, completely ignoring Sarah’s little insult. “Nope, I already made a big enough fool of myself this Friday” “So you’d say no to wine this Friday?” Sarah spoke, an eyebrow raised. “I’d never say no to wine, just no vodka like ever again”, I say. Just the thought of that hangover… “We can work with that”, Oliver turned to Sarah as they both nodded and started laughing. We continued to talk and eat and I actually really like this group, I’d almost forget that I’ve only been here for two days.   “What’s snobby doing here?” I suddenly hear behind me. As I turn around, I see Daniel walking towards the table looking at me, a smirk on his face, followed by Sarah’s twin brother. I just role my eyes at him and he sits down next to Jason, Matthew next to him and then Sarah. “And who do we have here?” Matthew smiled at me as I was about to reply. “That’s the girl Liam had to take home because she was a drunk mess”, he pretended to whisper to Matthew but I’m pretty sure he wanted me to hear. What an ass… “Screw you”, I told him, glaring at him. “You wish”, he answered and returned the glare. “Do not”, I continued but I felt Sophia nudge me. “Don’t piss him off”, she whispered to me. I just nod and turn back to the asshole, who waited for me to say something else. When he saw I wouldn’t, he rolled his eyes and turned to talk to Sarah. f**k, this dude is rude. “Wow”, Matthew broke the silence. “Yeah, I think I’m just gonna get to class. I have to call Michelle anyway”, I lied. “I’ll walk you”, Matthew said when I stood up. “Classes start in a bit anyway”, he added when he saw I was going to protest. “Sure, thanks”, I smiled at him and waved to the rest as we walked off.   “Jason and Daniel don’t like me very much do they?” I asked as we walked out of the cafeteria. I don’t understand anyway. Jason just full on hates it every time he sees me and Daniel just tries to annoy me away. “Don’t worry about them. Jason is probably just jealous”, He answered, a small chuckle leaving his lips. “What? Why would he be jealous?” “He and Oliver have this little contest with girls and you’re the hot new meat of the school honey. He’s probably just pissy he missed his shot”, he explained. It’s true that he always glares when Oliver is close to me but I still think it’s weird. “As for Daniel, that’s just a façade. He didn’t exactly have the easiest time growing up so he doesn’t easily let people in but he’s a good person, I can promise you that”, he added, voice full of sincerity. “Don’t tell him I told you that tho”, he added and I smiled back at him. “Thanks for telling me. I just want to end my year peacefully” “You really don’t have to worry. They’re relatively harmless” “Relatively?” I asked as we stopped at the door of my next class. “Just don’t push them and you should be fine”, he told me, patting my shoulder reassuringly. ‘Just don’t push them’, that’s easy to say. My mouth has a tendency to talk before thinking so that’s gonna give problems. “Hey, you’re phone went off”, Matthew interrupted my thinking. “Thanks”, I muttered and took my phone out, instantly rolling my eyes when I saw who it was.   - Ready to play now, Clark? - unknown   I sighed and looked up to see Matthew amused expression. “Let me guess, unknown?” he chuckled. “Yes, why?” I asked suspiciously, putting my phone away. “You should totally play the game. I’m quite curious where this will end up” he said without having read the text. So how does he know about ‘the game’? “Wait, you know who this is?” I felt excited all of a sudden, don’t ask me why. “I’ll see you later, Ella”, he ignored my question and walked away with a big smile on his face. “No, hold u-“, I wanted to run after him but the bell sounded. Typical… The rest of the day dragged on really slowly and I couldn’t wait to go home and enjoy some peace and quiet. I was currently in the car with Michelle who was being really quiet for her being. I mean I know I just said I wanted  quiet but somethings up.   “Michelle, what’s wrong?” I asked her directly, no need to beat around the bush. I heard her take a deep sigh as she continued to look at the road. “I’m probably just being overdramatic or something, so don’t worry about it”, she spoke. Yeah, now I’m sure something's up. “Tell me about it”, I pushed, knowing she’ll spill. “It’s just that I feel that Adams been kinda distant lately and I don’t know what to do” “I’m just gonna say that I’m not his biggest fan but I also believe that I don’t know him enough to be able to tell you what to do”, I told her truthfully. I do think he’s an asshole but if he really loves my cousin than who am I to tell her what to do? And then again I think a lot of people are asshole so… “Just talk to him about it”, I added as my house came in to view. “Thanks, cous”, she smiled at me before parking on my driveway. I got out and waved her goodbye before walking up to my house and unlocking the front door. Finally… I dropped my bag on the floor and threw my shoes off. Closing my eyes, I leaned my back against the front door and relax for a bit. However my eyes shot wide open when I heard some noise from the kitchen. I stayed absolutely still until I heard it again. Who the f**k is in my house? Nobody should be here…. I couldn’t stop my thoughts from going the unknown person who’s been texting me. What if this person is really in my house? What if this isn’t just some innocent joke? Oh my god, I knew I should have just ignored those text. This is all just Sophia’s fault and now I’m the one in deep s**t.   “Ella, is that you?” I immediately relaxed when I heard that voice. I felt my shoulders untense and walked into my house until I came into the kitchen to see my mom. “You’re home?” I asked as my breath slowly started to slow down. “What, you’re not happy to see your mother?” she asked, looking up from the papers that were laying in front of her. Of course she would bring her work home… “No, it’s just that I didn’t expect you to be here. And your car isn’t even on the driveway” “Oh, the car is in for a checkup. Why don’t you go up to do some homework or do something and then I’ll order some Mexican later?” she asked as she put down her reading glasses and smiled at me. “Sure mom, call me when the food’s here”, I smiled back at her and calmly made my way upstairs. I didn’t have any homework except for the text Ethan and I had to write so I guess I’ll just watch a movie or something. When I arrived in my room, I took my laptop and went to my favorite spot of the room, besides my bed of course. My room had a comfortable window seat that looked out on the street where I had put a lot of pillows and blankets when I had unpacked Sunday. I made myself comfortable and placed my laptop on my lap, putting on something random. I was 20 minutes into the movie when I heard my phone go off on my bed. I closed my laptop and sat down on my bed to open the message.   -It’s not really nice to ignore me like that, clark- unknown   Can’t this guy leave me alone? -What’s up?- I typed casually and decided I’ll just shower since I closed my laptop.   -Can we play now?- unknown   -Sure…-   -So the game is fairly easy, like truth or dare. We give each other a dare and if you fail or don’t want to do it, you’ll have to answer a truth - unknown That should be easy, I could just ask him who he is. The i***t… I drop my phone on the bed and walk to the bathroom, turning on the shower. I stayed under the shower for a good 15 minutes and went back to my room with a towel wrapped around my body. I took my phone again and opened the new message.   -But I do have one rule tho. Your dares and truths can’t ask me directly to reveal myself. And since I gave you a tip, I get to start ;) - unknown   -Fine, gimme the dare- I type not sure if I even want to play anymore.   -Drop the towel gorgeous – unknown Nope, I definitely don’t want to play anymore. Can they see me? I run to the window and search outside but there’s nobody there. I hold the towel tightly as I continue to scan the outside. I look down at the phone again and slowly unlock it.   -You’re not gonna find me, Clark. So, are you accepting the dare? – unknown
